I'm not certain, but I don't think you are allowed to put contact details up, including email addresses.

But nowhere does it say NOT TO give email addresses out.

RULES

By using your webcam you are allowing anyone in the room to view what is displayed on it. No one who is (or appears to be) under the age of 18 can be displayed on camera (even if they appear in the background) or heard on audio.

You may not display anything illegal on your webcam.

You are not allowed to play video over your camera.

Don't IM people without asking permission first.

You may not direct people on cam to do something in particular, apart from in the Directing Room which is for people who want comments and to be told what to do.

Don't use ALL CAPITALS BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE SHOUTING.

Don't post phone numbers in the chatroom.

Other members of the chatroom must be treated with respect at all times.

To protect our users from spam, we now have a simple rule. Don't post any web addresses at all in chat.

This is quite baffling to say the least. I hope someone in admin would at least give me a reason so that I can ensure NOT to do the same again.

Yup, your right. This is a new addition to the rules and will have been why the OP was banned.

Well i'd never believe liland harry. that is news to me. Surely it would be best to add 2 extra words to save the confusion "no web or email addresses"

I have been working with comps for a few years, and I would have said that an email address and a web address or 2 totally differnt things.

Are you moderators by any chance and can I take this as the difinitive reason?

Unfortunatly your hotmail.com address, that was in your message, is a "web address". So thats probably why you were banned.

We are moderators and this is something that we spoke to admin about to clarify with them.

We were told that the "no web addresses" does include email addresses, however can understand that its open to interpretation and agree that adding on those 2 extra words would make it clear to all. Possibly this is something that admin will change after reading this thread?

But LilanLarry - a web address and an email address are 2 different things. If no email addresses are to be posted then surely it would be just as simple to state specifically that no web addresses or email addresses are to be posted in chat ? That would make it unambiguous to both mods and chat users ....... In any event the rules were to be revamped about 2 weeks ago as I recall ???

I've just read your post, but until the rule specifically states 'no email addresses' I won't ban anyone for doing it .....

Lets be fair here - modding is difficult enough without wishy washy rules like this ..... all it needs is a couple of extra words inserted then everyone knows where they stand on the matter

At the moment we warn people several times anyway before handing out a ban to anyone. This includes posting email addresses in the room.

I have banned once or twice for this but it was people who were just spamming the room with the old cut and paste message looking for a meet with their email addy on it.

I completely agree that this is something that needs to be clarified. I also think that a set of no-nonsense rules is required, if it stops these kind of threads about why someone has been banned then even better.

Agreed !! As I said earlier, the rules were due to be revamped, but it appears that it is still pending.

The sooner it is done the better for ALL concerned ...

I can honestly say, that I saw no warnings whatsoever.

If you look at the list of rules which you cut and pasted, it's 2nd from the bottom ...... although as I've stated, it is ambiguous as it refers to web addresses not email addresses ....

Warnings are posted in the room every 10 mins at the moment. they have been since the new owners took over. The rules are also there for everyone to see, and all users should read them prior to entering the chat rooms. Some mods don't warn anymore because of the auto rules.

You are allowed back in chat now, can this be put to bed?

sugarxspice, the majority do a great job. but when u see folks sending email addresses to each other every day, and they dont get banned, and I post a text and I include @hotmail.com.

Being told by a moderator that your rule "no web adresses" also means no email addresses and another moderator says to the contrary makes it all a tad confusing. And there is no need for it.

Cghanging your rules would go a long way to ensure this doesnt happen again as i feel that I have been unfairly dealt with.

Oh well, at the end of the day every dissappointment is also a blessing, sometimes in disguise. lol

Alls well that ends well i suppose!!
