I have just been thinking about school dinners whilst eating a rather tasteless tuna butty.
My fave at school was sausage, mash and peas with loads of gravy followed by Manchester Tart. What say you non of the Pizza nonsense they seem to dish up now. |

The school dinner menu my grandson brought home last week had my mouth watering. It's not all pizza, tuna pasta and chips any more.
My favourite school dinner was sausage, chips and beans with sponge cake and custard( any of the combinations of cake and custard). |

We never had mint custard. We had vanilla, strawberry, chocolate and lemon. |

"I didn’t have school dinners my mum wouldn’t let us
Did you take warm cheese sandwiches, a Penguin bar and juice? "
We had ham salad sandwich on brown bread with no butter, an apple and those little boxes of raisins and a bottle full of the most diluted squash going.....sorry state of affairs we were not even allowed chocolate |

No I still turned out a fat bastard!! However I learnt valuable lessons around food choices and home cooked meals and not meals of convenience...so can cook decent meals etc I discovered vodka and crisps in later life |

I used to get a pound to pay for my lunch at primary shool but would swerve that and go to the sweet van instead. Back then you got a packet of polo's, rolos, mintolos and a single fag for your quid. That was my favourite |

"Spam fritters "
Mmmmm, remember them very well in the 1970's. They were even better when the batter had plenty of time to dry out and they were nice and crispy. Just about the only thing when i was at school that was recognizable as a meat product of some sort.............the rest was just inedible |
