Has feminism jumped the shark?

Ok so i was reading mumsnet (dont judge me I was looking for product reviews for some household stuff)
And thought I'd have a read about see if there was anything funny (like that penis beaker story that was on the news last year) opened the feminism section and holy shit!
It's basicaly just a whole section dedicated to hating trans women. They even have anacronmyms for it all TERF trans exclusionary radical feminist
And they keep saying "peaktrans" I'm genuinely not sure what it means when they say "well today I reached peaktrans" is it like peak oil?
But it does seem a fairly wide issue with all the Twitter links and politicians involved.
I dunno why but I always assumed feminists where on the side of trans people supporting another oppressed group etc but they seem to have them and wants rights removed from them?
So yeah has feminism jumped the shark here and gone from wanting equal rights to wanting oppression for another group? |

What makes you think 1. Feminists are posting ?
2. That those posting know what feminism is ?
3. That I believe you were looking at reviews on household products ? |

It's this weird place where they have somehow collected every crazy person in the country and got them to ask "am I being unreasonable" about thier clearly insane actions.

It's when you've reached maximum trans, no more extra trans can be recovered and then a slow decline in trans occurs.
Of course before that problem you get the bumpy plateau where demand for trans outstrips supply.... That's when the arguing starts |

I think you're way off here. Firstly, the idea that feminists have run out of things to fix is crazy also it's unfair to tar all feminists with this transphobic brush that you seem to have found on mumsnet, of all places |

You should check out the opinions and pure hatred that gets posted on there.
You don’t have to join the group to read the comments either. But some of the comments are so hate filled it’s quite sad. |

Groups tend to attract people who hold some similarities and also expressions can readily become exaggerated, with people competing to outdo each other.
There's of course no one single personality style that's exclusively the guise of a feminist. Feminism is what we each perceive it to be - I see it as a statement of demand for equality, at its core.
Conflation with transgender issues, a group which we also know suffers from discrimination, hatred etc, is likely to find people of almost all types who have some negativity towards transgender people and issues. Pop it into the mix of people being unhappy with their lot and misdirected anger can surface.
Go to any closed group - Fab included - and you'll find a disproportionate reflection of any society. I'd not assume that the 'feminists' speaking there are typical of much other than mumsnet 'feminists'. |
