Mine is Janes Addiction- Then she did . This is why " Then She Did is a Janes Addiction Song of 1987 written shortly after the death of Xiola Blue . It's a song about Perry Farrells mother's suicide and the accidental overdose of his lover Xiola Blue . In the final verse of the song Perry is asking Xiola to visit his mother in heaven . It's the saddest yet most euphoric song I have ever heard . I've always loved this band but no one seems to have ever heard of them |

"Hallelujah- Jeff Buckley
Just hits me hard
Behind the walls - Tracy Chapman
There are plenty plenty more"
Today is the 30th anniversary of the release of Tracy Chapmans debut album which had Behind the walls on it. It's been with me my whole life and I still love it. |

"Nothing compares to you..cant think of her name right now
Sinead O'Connor! But the song was actually written by Prince. "
She was on mtv recently. She said that the record company made her say that she sang it about a ex boyfriend.
When actually she dedicated it to her mom that had passed away and she was in fact lesbian. |

The saddest piece of music I can think of is Elgar's Sospiri. Written just before the start of WW1 and first performed at the Albert Hall, it wasn't well received and Elgar was accused of being unpatriotic as it was far from the pomp and glory that people were expecting. Elgar could see the way the world was spiralling towards catastrophe and so he composed a piece which is very sad in tone, and yet very beautiful. |

Yesterday by the beetles. It was my dad's favourite. He sang it often. I love it but I cry everytime I hear it. He was my hero and i realised that too late. |

Classic FM Live are hosting a WW1 centenary concert in October, Royal Albert Hall. The Philharmonic plus regimental and service bands, Invictus choir and National youth choir. They will be playing Nimrod plus a new composition written for the centenary. Proceeds are going to SSAFA, I am dying to go to it I think it will be really moving and memorable live. |

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven
Would you hold my hand
If I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand
If I saw you in heaven?
I'll find my way through night and day
'Cause I know I just can't stay here in heaven
Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees
Time can break your heart, have you begging please, begging please
Beyond the door there's peace I'm sure
And I know there'll be no more tears in heaven
Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven

Yes, without a doubt. First song that played when we got in the car driving back from my niece's funeral. She only lived for a few hours. |

Tune! Swans are a belting band. So dark and supremely heavy. |

Time to Say Goodbye - Andrea Bocelli and Sara Brightman, played at my dad's funeral. He was ex Royal Navy and the lyrics never fail to bring tears to my eyes.
Time to say goodbye.
Places that I've never seen or experienced with you.
Now I shall, I'll sail with you upon ships across the seas,
seas that exist no more,
it's time to say goodbye. |

Gram Parsons - $1000 Wedding (it’s a Southern gothic novel in a four minute song)
Nancy Wilson - Ode to Billy Joe (ditto)
Nina Simone - My Father
Janis Joplin - Little Girl Blue (watch the the version on YT live on the Tom Jones show. Heart-meltingly beautiful) |

That's a great Gram Parsons song He sure knew how to do melancholy. I also love his song Brass Buttons...
Her words still dance inside my head
Her comb still lies beside my bed
And the sun comes up without her
It just doesn't know she's gone
Ooh, but I remember everything she said |

Thanks! He was great - proper, real, soulful country unlike all that commercial stuff. His voice was gorgeous and worked beautifully with Emmylou Harris.
“She” is another great, sad song of his. |
