Always struck me as a genuinely decent bloke too, which is no mean feat after having so much success so early in life.

Sad news indeed.

Sad.

I remember him as England's great young hope in the late seventies. There's a momento mori...

Very sad news. Even after leaving Villa he would give Jack Grealish help and advice. A gentleman, great player. I'll miss hearing him on talkSPORT.

There and to the left a bit

RIP "Butch" very sad news indeed - a truly decent man by all accounts - although my abiding memory of him will always be Mexico 86 England playing Morrocco and we were struggling, clock was ticking down and the ball went out for a throw to us and Morroccan player was wasting a few seconds by holding onto the ball - Ray comes running over shouting "Give me the fucking ball" - summed up his passion.

Really sad, as a lifelong Chelsea fan he was the one shining light during the dark days of a shit ground, unsavoury fan reputation, being skint etc.

As a kid i watched him many times at Loftus road. A player who always took time to speak with the fans.

My step brother was at qpr for a kids football tournament before a game. He was involved in a collision on the pitch and taken to hospital. After the 1st team game finished Ray and a few of the other players visited him at the hospital with a bunch of signed stuff and wished him well. A few weeks later Ray went as far as to call him at home to make sure he was ok.

That forever made Ray Wilkins one of my biggest football heroes and showed what a true gent he was.

RIP Butch.

Think he still holds fastest goal scored by an Englishman in the World Cup?

Spain 1982

RIP

Really sad to hear this, I'm a life long Chelsea fan and had the privilege of meeting Ray a few of times at work. Always had time for a quick coffee and a chat before he went on air.

RIP Ray.
