It takes a hell of a lot to offend me so I'm fine with most jokes including bad taste stuff as long as they aren't just plain hateful. I always measure up the company I'm in before sharing though, I don't like offending others. |

Some people like Chubby Brown, some people like Sooty.
Everyone’s humour is different, so a joke can only be “too far” if you deem it to be.
Also, context matters too... but that’s a whole other issue |

It’s going to vary depending on the circumstances and what’s being joked about.
.
I know a lot of people don’t like him, but Ricky Gervais makes a good point in his latest show on Netflix about people confusing the subject of a joke, and the target of a joke. Now, I’ve got a pretty dark sense of humour, so as far as I’m concerned, I’ll make anything the subject of a joke, with the right audience; with my colleagues, or my brother, we can joke about the very ‘worst’ subjects, and take it to the absolute extremes. I couldn’t do the same with my granny, though.
.
It also depends on how you’re quantifying ‘too far’. If it’s not escalating/intensifying/whatever the right word is, but just going on and on and on, that’s just shit. |

Some of those jokes on there are going to offend so many people. Brilliant though. |

"Some of those jokes on there are going to offend so many people. Brilliant though. " I’ve watched it twice now. I think he himself starts tripping over the subject/target line with some of the Jenner/chimp stuff early on, but most of it had me in bits.

"Chubby BrownThe problem with Roy Chubby Brown is who his jokes target. He’s not funny, he’s just a racist, misogynist, bigoted cunt.
He went to the Bernard Manning school of "humour" "
Aye but he sells tickets so clearly someone finds him funny... not sure who, but someone does |

I saw his last show of his tour in Amsterdam. Netflix censored some of it. |

Roy Chubby Brown is a very funny man, he used to be very controversial, but deliberately so. Knows how to make the most of his talent and shift tickets.

Being controversial and selling tickets doesn’t make you funny. Making arseholes laugh doesn’t make you funny. His stuff about sex appeals to adolescent boys (or those with the the brain of one) who think just saying ‘fuck’, ‘cunt’ and ‘pussy’ is funny.
.
Jim Davidson, Bernard Manning, Roy Chubby Brown, all the same. Utter scum. |

Was gonna add Jim Davidson to ma list
I think a lot of it all stems from programs back in the 70's when racial humour was seen as the norm.... |

"There was a Dave Allen bio/documentary on TV tonight, - so strange how some of the aforementioned were classed as 'comedians' . "
Absolutely loved Dave Allen |

He was brilliant, and very subversive.
I think reading something funny is a whole different ballgame to hearing it or watching a comedian. Its easy to misunderstand a joke when you just have the bare text. Half the reason we need emojis perhaps is to tell us when something's a joke and when it's just passively aggressive... ( ) |

I actually shed a tear when he died because he was a huge part of growing up - with laughter .
He offended & pssed off many people but that's a classic example of "who cares" , - especially after his upbringing in 'religious' Ireland with 'holy' nuns.
No wonder he completely took the pss out of them all! |

My father used to have his stand up routines on VHS. I would be in stitches. His bit on getting older got me all the the time. I was really sad when I heard he'd passed too |

LOL. I think you need to chill out a bit more. You're talking about material and sets from over two decades ago. It's not worth getting good angry about now! |
