When I was in the States I saw a sign on the freeway that said “Voted America’s No1 Pies”. Naturally I turned off after weeks of craving proper food. My excitement levels was at maximum. When I entered it was nothing but fruit pies. I think the term pie should be protected and only used on savouries.

Pies have always been both sweet and savoury.

When I first saw this thread, I immediately thought peach.

"Game pie.... venison, rabbit, pheasant, duck"

More importantly, it's not a pie if it's only got a pastry topping.

Define pie.....

If you mean shite in a bowl with a pastry lid then that my friend, is no pie. The shite needs to be encased.

Only thing allowed to use the term pie, whilst not being of the pastry variety is either fish, cottage or shepherds.

My favourite pie is either beef and ale, pork pie. Chicken..... Tbh i'm partial to all variety of pie.

Melton Mobery Pork pie.

Or, Gala sometimes called Grosvenor pie, that's a pork pie, with a hard boiled egg in the centre.

It's best if you need a hack saw to cut the crust.

100% agree hate it when I order at a pub and it comes as a stew with a lid! The soggy bottom is the best bit.
