What is a wink to you?

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

For me it is a way to say hi. Not really a replacement for messages. But great when on the run on my phone. I rarely do it though.

If I recieve one I check them out and respond with a thanks.

I'd rather use it like a poke. make it available for friends only.

I take it like I would someone looking at me in person.. a sign that they are interested..

I check them out... if I dont like what I see then I dont respond.. if I do, then I wink back.. or say thanks for the wink, and ask what caught their eye.

To me its for someone too lazy to type a message. And too lazy to make the effort to get my attention and sell themselves , to me, means they're probably lazy in bed. I sometimes check out the profile of people who wink me but I very rarely reply because it means they haven't read my profile.

Having said that I get winks from people on my friends list as a sort of "hello I was perving you're profile sort of thing" and I don't mind that at all

I rarely wink in real life. But I smile at them instead.

i dont think a wink has anyrepresentation as to how good someone is in bed!

i think its just a way of getting someones attention, kind of a 'hey i like you, check me out and see if you like me to'

What i dont get is someone that winks without having any pics on their profile, ho am i supposed t tell if i like them???

"To me its for someone too lazy to type a message. And too lazy to make the effort to get my attention and sell themselves , to me, means they're probably lazy in bed. "

That is one tremendous leap of logic (or more likely, imagination) to suggest that someone who sends a wink is lazy in bed.

Winks are a nice ice-breaker, and also save on the frustration of having a carefully worded message deleted on arrival.

I guess if you are getting 10 or more winks a day then it does become a chore having to click and look, when actually what you want is someone to send you a message that you can delete instantly, instead....

I think winks are a great way of finding out whether someone is interested.....What other purpose could they be for???

What is the point of trying to send something personal and original in a message if you don't know whether the recipient would plump for John McCririck, over you, if you were the last 3 people on earth..... unless that other person is 'the booby'..... I'll be having nightmares for a week......

it's one of two things

either i need a spurt to induce sleep and in that case it usually involves xtube or some similar stimulant

alternatively, it's a slow wake up in a morning when the bed is nice and warm, you wake up hard and your eyes aren't fully open

0h sorry, did you say wink ?

Hmm, hadnt considered it like that, another site im no you can wink everyone in your choosen area that meets your search choice.... so, the site does it for you, guess here its different as they actually have to be on your profile page to wink you, i will look at them from now on, i could be missing out!

Winks on here and other sites are a complete waste of time. Ive been winked loads of times by couples, you then take the time to message back and you get ignored. Why bother to wink in the first place, if you then ignore the person you have winked?.

Thats true! I sometimes send a message back starting with 'Thanks for the wink.........', but other times just wink back, yet most don't respond. Thats why I now feel it is a lazier version of a 'cut & paste', and they have 'winked' a host of people

I tend to use winks if I'm just having a quick browse after reading messages. I dont always have ample time to send a full message out to others, especially when at work and accessing through my phone! If those I wink either wink back or message me I can then spend the time to send a proper message out when I next log in.

from a guys point of view on here , the message route is not always the best . when it gets deleted anyway so whats the point in thinking about it and sending one ? nothing to do with being lazy either , just the way it is . so a wink register some interest saves a lot of fucking about .just my point of view .

If we wink at someone we do not expect to get a message back, but it is nice if we do. Usually, we would expect a wink back if they are interested in us and then we can message them. If we don't get one back, no harm done and we move on.

Yes we send out perhaps 3 or 4 at a time, but it is to say. "We like your profile, if you like ours wink back". Trying to find out if they like you without going to all the trouble to write a personal message.

Certainly doesn't make us lazy in bed!!

Yup! Couldn't agree more with that.

This whole notion that winking is "lazy" is pretensious nonsense in my view. There is no logical connect. It's simply another way of communicating, and if you choose to ignore it thanks fine. Afterall you're entitled to do so, but to assume the sender is one thing or another makes no sense.

I'm also puzzled by the people who constantly repeat the "if you're truly interested then you should send a message" mantra, who mostly do not reply when one is sent. Or equally believe they have more time to scythe though the vast amounts of messages, but are unable to cope with winks.

Perhaps it's a terminology thing? What if they weren't called a "wink", but something less sleazy like a "hello"? Or a "hi"? Or a "hi there"?

I totally agree its hard to please people . The ones who complain about winks I dont wink them ,I just leave them to go through their multitude of messages which most admit they delete anyways . Some people

"i never send and i delete all i receive without even looking whats the point? if you like the look of someone take the time to introduce yourself "

Busy lives, 5 mins in the morning before you must set off for work, no time to type but you have found a profile you like, so do you click a wink or be late for work sending a message?

I've taken the time out to introduce myself, gained the healthy interest then messaged the person on obviously a "wrong time" for them and had the whole nine yards, guessing as to why i have'nt re-messaged sooner, blocked and ignored because? Well because i chat to other swingers and dont do the pushy persistant messaging.

Winks, messages, they are all the same lottery on here, nowt to do with when you wink, or how you word a message, if you are unlucky enough to contact someone who cant get over themselves then your f***ed from the word go.

I forget to look at my winks... until a thread about winks comes along... so it can be a month or so before I look. By then I have no idea who winked when or how long ago, so I just delete them.

I prefer people who have the confidence to write a message.

Don't check our winks very often but quite like looking through them, when we do remember.

But have never sent one back as we are never sure how long ago they winked.

They don't offend us at all, to us they are just like a smile or a real wink.

Winks are a handy tool for the groups of people who have to do the most footwork to get meets:

Single guys, TV/TS, same sex couples, couples, single women.

This is my general idea of who I think is most likely to use winks as an option. The first being most likely, the last being least likely (not written in stone and subject to change )

My reasoning is that if you're part of the "in-demand" group at the time, you're less likely to explore the use of winks as a form of communication with someone you'd like to meet whereas someone on the other end of the spectrum will use it to increase their chances of getting attention.

Yeah it is, but when that's your first impression of someone, you don't have a lot more to go on. They're relying on you making the effort to read their profile, which is pretty impersonal, rather than trying to make a connection with you. That says lazy to me. I'm looking for a certain type of person to meet and this helps me week out the people who are probably not what I'm looking for.

I'm not saying that everyone will agree with me but the OP asked us what we think of winks, and that is what I personally think.
