Having spent many years in the trade, I have to say (and this is my preference and not representative of the whole of fab forums, before someone jumps down my throat) but inam not a lover of the swanky wine bar, or the shot swilling alcopop pub, I do though love a proper boozer.
Last year we were awarded our Camra branch's pub of the year and one of the 10 nominated for Greater Manchester pub of the year, so mine is a boozer.
Where do you fabbers stand on this, boozer or trendy establishment |

I like a boozer. One with a pool table in the corner, two old men propping up the bar nursing their half and half, folk shouting good natured abuse at each other across the room that's my kind of bar |

I like places that have comfy sofas and chairs and your as happy going in for coffee in the middle of the day as you are on a night out. Having said that if im out with the girls cant beat a good jukebox and table top dancing |

Depends who I'm with and what I want from a night out.
Our local boozer is awful inside and not very welcoming. It's for people who want to get d*unk and play pool.
I'm off to an Irish bar later that will be lively, with live music. All kinds of people go there of all ages.
If I'm with a man and want to chat I like a quieter, cosier place, with low level background noise. |

Country Pub with nice food. A roaring fire for the winter and a lovely garden for the summer.
Throw in Gin and a decent Lager and I’m a happy lad. Nice staff who know me by name and some comfortable chairs to lounge in.
You can keep Real Ale for yourself. Not a fan. |

There’s a good mix locally to us.
There’s the “posh” bars which are nicely decorated etc but the only thing posh is the prices attatched to the drinks. - these places tend to be full of stuck up weekend millionaires.
There’s the “craft” bars, these tend to be more rustic in decoration, not cheap but there’s very little mainstream products available, usually accompanied by live music, board games etc...there’s one near us that we love.
Then there’s the traditional boozer, loads to choose from and alway great in there own way, you get what you see.
Give me the craft bar or boozer any day.
We’re waiting to hear back from a pub....would be awesome to see Mrsdpts name above the door

It's not the establishment that matters it's the clientele that it attracts.
I've been in boozers full of dickheads and posh wine bars where I've had a bloody good night out and the other way around.

"For me it would have to be somewhere with comfy chairs and a good wine list or gin bar.. currently 11 gins, and some wicked gin cocktails"
Whitley neill rhubarb and ginger gin is one of the best things I’ve ever tasted! I’m not on the bandwagon with drinking gin, but bloody hell that stuff is good! |

I just don't get these wine bars or new fangled gastro pub places . I used to frequent a local pub called the World's End. It used to be awesome . Pool table, lots of locals all on first name basis with everyone else, a jukebox and a skittles tables , admittedly I was shagging the landlady but that's not the point . Lock ins were a unwritten rule and curries were ordered and we helped ourselves behind the bar ( we did pay ) . You could actually have a night out in one place . There's litterally nothing to do in there now. They've painted everywhere grey , moved all the activities out and no locals bother going there now . It's now a modern eaterie with Fuck all to do . Just my opinion . |

Must admit I love a proper pub with a pool table, where you can get good banter with the locals. I do love my cocktails so on nights out with the girls I will go in wine bars. Maybe do a basic instinct move then leave haha |

It really depends on the ocassion and the company. Great boozers and some terrific wine bars. Harvey Nicks Kensington 5th floor, if with a date or if looking to flirt as yes, it still goes on there. Sanderson hotel bar, great for flirting and chatting also. Many great boozers in London also, avoid the touristy ones though.
I suppose there may even be some decent ones up north? |

Freehouse, would never go in tied.
We’ve got plenty of brewing knowledge too so I’d love to set up a tiny 1HL brewery on site if possible. you can do it using 22 gallon kegs |

"I love a proper boozer, when you walk in and locals glare at you. Proper characters.
I used to live in a village that had 2 pubs, you got looked at funny if you walked into the wrong one 10 minutes before last orders "
Being in Liverpool there are loads of pubs where everyone has their own seat so you have to be careful. |

I was sitting in our local pub, years and years ago, and looked around the table. I was sitting with some very unsavoury characters and thought thank fuck I know them. |

"Definitely a boozer. Older the better. Serving real ale. Think the blue anchor helston Cornwall My old local" this place has been a pub since 1814, was an old coaching house on an old route from Yorkshire to Lancashire

We have a mission to visit ever local boozer in my area. We've already ticked a fair few off. It's amazes me how people go on about some places, oh don't go there you'll get stabbed etc. It's England not Beirut. But then we got on with anyone. Trendy places and/or portentous place just ain't for us. |

I indulged in a mid afternoon treat in a gin bar today. They sell over 150 different gins. It was hard to resist the temptation to have more than one |

Lots of blue anchors about

Both. Until pubs up their wine game then probably more towards pubs. The ones that don't rob us of some of our pint with sparklers |

We had a nice old pub in town a few years ago, it was taken over, gutted and reopened. I only went in once, not a seat to be seen, shelves to rest your beer were fitted around the posts that supported the ceiling.
The cricketers in Brid used to be okay but that went the same way, they tore out the old wooden bar and replaced it with something that resembles a kitchen worktop. |

I like a pub where you can go and have a chilled pint, no nonsense no drama. I don't fit into these trendy places, I just feel they're a bit pretentious. One of my favourite pubs is the Dublin Castle in Camden.

I rarely go to a pub anymore but if I did I would choose one with a bit of history and a good resident ghost to intrigue me. Old wood, tiled floors, mismatched wonky furniture and open fires. The Skirrid Inn was the last one I went to. Fulfilled all of the above admirably |

Old mens pubs every time. Somewhere full of character and characters.
I've been chatted up by an 86 year old ex trapeze and wall of death artist and another been shown how to play the spoons.
You don't get that in most wine bars! |

We’be been without a local for many years. Titanic opened a cafe bar 200 meters from my house on Friday. Excellent beer & gin options & a good coffee menu too. Will become my new favourite venue I’m afraid!!
We go to a social club with family for pool & darts etc..

Old timber beams flag floors inglenook fireplace with log fires and lots of rustic wood fittings. Beer direct from the barrel rural hidden in a small village next to a stream surrounded by fields on the edge of the village with locals famers and awash with charater age history and real ale.
But its about 200+miles from where I now live... |

Worked in a boozer it was great, locals are lovely and enjoy a good chin wag when it’s quite, just starting in a bar within a cultrual quarter, something that caters for everyone, see how this goes |
