"Foo Fighters, awful generic FM friendly rock, that relys on ever cliche in music!

Agreed. I done a thread on them a week ago, got lots of angry responses because I thought overrated, also some in agreement. |

I nervously duck as I suggest the beatles too, perhaps at the time they added something new but listening to them years later I just don't get it. And Paul McCartney's more karaoke standard with his more recent stuff.

No need to suck it’s quite a popular opinion now as proved by some of these threads in the past.
They have some fanatical fans that go wobble if you suggest anything to the contrary. |

I can remember in the late '90s/Early '00s, being retrospectively a fan of the Beatles was quite trendy.
My parents came to visit me, and happened to mention that they had seen the Beatles a few times, and upon being asked what it felt like to see them, I can remember my mum saying that they were pretty rubbish, and just happened to be on. She went on to tell my friend that they were the kind of crap your granny liked and if you were actually cool, you liked the Yardbirds.... |

There and to the left a bit |
Coldplay
Oasis (for pretty much anything after What's The Story?)
Nickelback
Kings Of Leon (a few tracks aside)
The Smiths (I acknowledge they had some good songs but they're nowhere near as big/good as their fans will have you believe) |

Oasis had one album of any note - and apparently this is because (according to Noel) He'd written most of the songs before Oasis had really started. So he put the best ones on the first album, the next best on the second album and so on.

Why 'oh dear'
The beatles are definitely overrated..
They were only a band for 5 yrs and most of that time they spent on stages being screamed at so no one could hear their music anyway.. then they split up and that should have been the end of them.. |

I've been a fan of Radiohead since the beginning. Never felt like seeing them live though, I could be wrong, but they strike me as very much a "sit at home and listen" type band (especially everything post OK Computer), which I enjoy doing. |

Thank god someone else said Pink Floyd.
I really don't get it.
As a musician myself, I really rate the Beatles - some really top notch songwriting - but there is a lot of strange stuff that should never have been released - "Yellow Submarine" for a start.
Unfortunately a lot of bands get popular then we are bombarded with them because the record companies, radio stations etc have no imagination and won't take risks, then we get sick of them and don't rate them.

Seriously though why do these kind of threads just end up with people saying the same names as the previous few posters? There have been thousands of bands and so many were overrated but we can only name a dozen between us...
So I don't fall I to the same trap here's a new one - Take That... Though you can exchange them for any bland boy/girl band of the past few decades if you like |

So here is my input............. the sex pistols.
Privately educated middle class twats, pretending to to be anti establishment and for the people.
In fact when you look back at it, pretty much all punk was crap. It just goes to show that that music as very much a put of our lives and we may like certain music at certain times.
Punk = when kids wanted to be heard.
Dance = when people were off their tits.
Boy bands = when looks were more important than talent.
The Manchester scene = when people saw no future for themselves.
And so on |

I would consider overrated bands as the ones that have sold tens of millions of records, but probably shouldn’t have. I very much doubt that any band from the 2000’s has reached that milestone. So are not worthy of being considered as overrated. |

Whilst I agree that the Pistols are given a lot more credit musically than they are possibly due, and in fact were as manufactured and manipulated as most boy bands, they were at the forefront (possibly by design) of breaking down a lot of barriers that did away with the way music was heading back then.
As for them being "Privately educated middle class" - that's totally incorrect, with the possible exception of Glen Matlock, they were all from working class council estate backgrounds and educated in state schools, which they spent most of their time bunking off from - in fact John Lydon missed a large part of his education due to meningitis.
You may be getting confused with The Clash who were from more privileged backgrounds

Seriously???? The doors where so far ahead of their time. Awesome band. The stone roses are the band of a generation. How can led zep be on there? So many classic songs. And the who? Dont get it. But we all entitled to our opinions.
For me it would be coldplay and most of paul McCartney outwith the beatles. G |
