How Safe is Your Job?

Mine is a bit of an unknown at present, there’s talks of us being taken over and I’m not sure if it will end up being a good or a bad thing.
I’ve been looking round, but there’s not much about at the moment. Maybe it’s time for a change. |

Mines quite a new job but I would say it's pretty safe and if my particular area closed down I could walk into another similar role although I may not enjoy it as much |

Relatively safe. I work in a public sector statutory service so the position is protected and 2 staff have just reduced their hours making further staff cuts unlikely.
That said it's the public sector so the flip to this is non existent pay increases |

I'm self-employed so it's always a bit of feast or famine. It's feast at the moment but the summer is usually a little thin.
The teenager was told that his Saturday job might be for the chop. They're reviewing all part-time contracts.  |

Safe. Frankly, if I decided to leave my job, they would be screwed!
I like the company I work for (less-so the clients we go out to) but could probably force myself a salary bump if I mention leaving every now-and-then, lol. |

Permanent job? It's the job not the person who's permanent!
Current co going through change of ownership,again,been very good to me last 8 years,but.....able to get work so if it all goes wrong be a shame but not end of world,£ in the bank helps too |

My boss told me I have a job with him for life so I’m pretty sure it’s safe. I’m lucky in that I love what I do and have worked hard to get where I am now. I’m in the private sector as well which is good... people will always need lawyers. |

Unless you get undercut by a foreign company, then cut your prices so much (saying at the same time, sourcing cheaper materials), in the end full books no profit!

I've been under threat of redundancy for the last 3 months, 3rd time in 2 years since we got taken over.
I've decided to leave and got myself a new job. Is that safe, who knows but I've got to take the chance. |

I don't think any jobs safe these days. I've been In mine 20 years now but I've been on redundancy notice 4/5 times I think now. I've lost count how many take overs there's been. Guess I'm pretty lucky knolage is power... |

Our market doesn't have the threat from us being undercut luckily.
It requires a certain skill set that fits our clients specific needs using the right equipment.
Most have been with us for decades and all our work comes from referrals, no website, social media etc. |

My job will probably last another three years before, since I'm the gaffer, I restructure myself our of existence and find the next set of victims for my unique mix of skills and spiel....

The bit I dont understand is why you see your employers as the enemy?
They are under no obligation to employ you and in today's world at least they are.
Steer clear of the multi nationals if you want a nice work environment it's far less cut throat. |

Solidly safe for another 2 years. After that, I haven't a clue and that can be thought about at another time.
If there wasn't a job with my current employer I could walk in to almost any job in my industry I wanted, due to being fucking tremendous at what I do. So my working future is certainly safe. |

I'm on a temporary contract, so not very safe at all! But I've just had it extended until the end of June, so I've got a couple more months to find something permanent! |

Lucy - safe but might get moved around abit.
Ethan - Relatively safe with a very low chance of losing work but has plenty of offers if he does. Also has investments that pay a fair bit per month that would cover if all went wrong.

I had a stroke 2years ago....and was back working within 3 months down to my stubborn tenacity...so thanks for your wise words...my skills will still not be redundant....they will just die with me....  |

I'd have to do something pretty naughty to lose mine.
Thinking of safety from another point of view I work with the public, I've had a knife to my throat, had objects thrown at me, I've been threatened numerous times and been spat at more times than I can remember.

I like to think I’m safe in my job, all the while we have residents they will always need activities! If my colleague can keep her job (we do the same one) and has been there for a year and a half and she does fuck all then I think I am safe, the fact they battled to stop me leaving in December with one week left on my notice and I got employee of the month this month does give me a certain cushion.

I work in the public sector in one of the many one person silos. Job is relatively secure and I’d say the biggest risks are mergers or a TUPE arrangement that moves me to an organisation I don’t want to work for
If I am made redundant for whatever reason my package would be pretty fair |

I think few careers and jobs are safe and secure, in light of the rapid development and deployment of technology, including robots. This is particularly magnified due to increased global competition and the impending potential UK departure from the EU. |

I am very lucky in the fact that I have a very rare skill set. I have worked at the same company's multiple times over the past 18 years I am at my current employer for the 3rd time and I keep getting invited back!
But would I class my job as safe the answer is never it's all down to something called a contract of employment and my one states that if they want to terminate my employment they are only liable to pay one month's notice period!
On the plus side I have never been asked to leave a company before so I don't see any reason for them asking me to leave now, however I keep my eyes open for opportunities and if the right one came up and I wasn't happy where I was I'd show them the same amount of loyalty as they'd show me! |

My jobs pretty secure... Ive dropped my hours too to help with my mental health so they are keen too look after me and often im askedto throw in an extra shift to cover colleagues sickness. |
