Well hello Fab Crap Runners!

It's Week Twelve! I know I confused everyone on the week eleven thread but getting the dates wrong - sorry about that!

29 intrepid people reported progress this week.

EXPLANATION AND ETHOS:

EVERYONE is welcome in the Fab Crap Runners' Club (the crapper the better).

From 1st January, a bunch of Fabbers began improving our fitness through running. None of us were natural athletes (I was a natural couch potato!) but we did it anyway.

FOR COMPLETE BEGINNERS:

"Couch to 5k" (C25K) is a nine-week running programme for absolute beginners, available on various free phone apps (I used Get Running). But you can join this thread to get fit by any means including walking and cycling - all are welcome. If you're expecting to be utterly crap at it (I mean reeeeeeeeeally bad), you're in the right place. Join the thread, tell us what your aim is and we'll cheer you on each week, just for trying.

HarryJones1975 Ran the FRCR parkrun in the freezing cold (Thanks for sticking with me even though you could walk at the pace I ran!)

MrsTrellis Despite attempting to persuade the FCRC to skip the parkrun and head straight to the pub, Mrs T was bullied into running the bloody thing (and managed it and was proud!)

northerndels1000 Ran Week Six Run Two covering 4.9km. Talking to MrsT about a Northern FCRC parkrun. (You must be pretty fast! Re Northern parkrun - let's do it!)

Poetsday Ran 3.5 miles while thinking about sex. (An excellent example to all of us!)

Psylocke Ran the FCRC parkrun which is her first 5km since her knee injury. (V well done. Glad you're back on your feet).

signorina Has started a new eating plan and lost 5lbs. (That's great. I bet you feel awesome)

TheHoff1973 Came to the FCRC parkrun and walked the course. (Very pleased you came alone).

FAB CRAP RUNNERS' CLUB SOCIAL TWO (THE RETURN)!!!!!!!

The first social was a load of fun. We all did the parkrun (some walking, some running - all welcome) and then drank a lot of coffee in the local pub. Due to the success, we're planning two more socials. Please vote for the dates you can do...

Really good to meet everyone at the social, and well done to everyone who ran their first parkrun. The coaches’ reward blow jobs were amazing.

I’m still planning on posting “improvers’ advice” every so often with my esteemed fellow coaches but if you’d like advice away from the thread, feel free to pm me.

If you’ve reached any goal, the key is to find another realisable goal. That might be to maintain your running fitness, get faster over 5K, or run further. Probably best to try to keep running to 3 times a week at the moment, maybe 4...with rest days between runs being a priority...and don’t try to improve too quickly.

As Twat said above, keep running (she says from a nice warm bed looking out the window at snow and ice) and find a new goal.

And if you haven't quite yet reached your goal yet (I will not say the "f" word) either readjust your goal or give yourself a bit longer to do it.

I didnt attempt to again after last week, but that wasnt because of having a bad jog. More if a case of needing to sort my head out and the causes.... after the few days of hibernating last week, hopefully i will be back at it this week feeling happier.

I have gone backwards because of work, being ill and this bad weather but last week i got out twice, i tried to do 3 days in one go but decided after 2 that the 3rd wasn't the right thing to do. Today is a swap over day that i would've gone out running but i still don't feel up to it so I'm gradually getting back to it and will do my 3 runs on my days off next week. I don't feel I've failed as I'm still going out i have put my mindset back to a few weeks ago and realise that taking 3 weeks off is not the same as a few days off with work so i need to build back up, it'll be quicker than week 1 but its the hills that are knocking me off

I’m still running 3 times a week but my fitness level is obviously marginal. I tried to faster on Friday because my current speed is just under 7 minutes per km. I did 6:45 per km but only lasted about 15 minutes!

I am deeply unfit so should I keep the same pace but try and crack 5k? It means another 5 minutes of running.

Or should I go faster and do Week 3 or something so I can build up my stamina at the faster speed?

I would definitely stick with your comfortable pace, and build up time on your feet. Going too fast too soon is a recipe for injury.

Agreed, but Adam wanted to improve pace and suggested going back to Week 3 to do this. So both steady and longer (as you say) and shorter but SLIGHTLY faster works. Mix and match is my advice...

Changed my route as well as wanted a change of scenery

I was doing the unforgivable amongst joggers (I consider myself a jogger not a runner) last night, in that I was running (I know I know jogging) on a machine in the gym, no wind in my hair, no birds singing, no taxi home after getting knackered half way.

Anyway, I had a program set and thought I was doing quite well, 2/3rds in, I accidentally hit the stop button, lost my rhythm and in my pathetic attempts to restart all the data and guff. Grrrrrr

Week 6 run 3 again....22 mins continuous running and i did it, yay go me and i did it bit more so could be 25 mins lol I've also ran a different route, instead of doing a smaller loop 3 times i decided to run the whole route, 4.6k, its part of my local Park Run(parkrun is all lowercase ) i suppose all i need to do is register and try and get my arse out of bed and go on a Saturday morning

I few weeks ago i was raring to go for a run but because of nearly a 3 week gap of not running i was at the force myself out point and the only thing that has kept me going is you wonderful people on here i feel great now and so glad i got out, thanks all for the encouragement and support

Hi all. Just checking in as not said much for few days. Had 6 days off since last run because of a minor calf injury. Back on it tonight then Friday. Then will enter the final week. Saturday. I’m hoping to run 10 k. Did an 11 few week ago but just hoping calf holds up.

"Week 6 run 3 again....22 mins continuous running and i did it, yay go me and i did it bit more so could be 25 mins lol I've also ran a different route, instead of doing a smaller loop 3 times i decided to run the whole route, 4.6k, its part of my local Park Run(parkrun is all lowercase ) i suppose all i need to do is register and try and get my arse out of bed and go on a Saturday morning

I didn't run last week because of the weather. Today I ran my first 5k, 5.7 to be exact. It took me nearly an hour. When I got home I discovered my RED January medal in the post. Great day for it to arrive.

Week 7 run 1.....i didn't run continuously, i ran 22 mins but the last bit was uphill supposed to be continuous 25 mins but i walked 2-3 mins then ran again for another 6 mins'ish.

Strava says i did 5.3k and my average pace seems to be 8.50/km, I'm happy with that especially when i look over the last few weeks/months

Make a commitment to yourself that you will run tomorrow. Get all your running kit out tonight so all you have to do tomorrow is put it on and head out. Don't leave any room for faffing or making excuses, give yourself every chance to actually get out there and run, and feel good about yourself.

And definitely come to the next parkrun social!

Great going guys and gals, keep it up (ooh er missus )

I took up running just over a year ago, and struggled to run for more than a few minutes without feeling like I was dying. Joined a local running group, started doing parkrun when I was able, and completed my first half marathon two weeks ago! So if I can do it, anyone can! It’s great to see you all getting into it. Take things at your own pace, remember that even the slowest runner is still faster than the person sitting on the sofa.

Good luck to everyone doing parkrun tomorrow. I volunteer at ours when I can, and have been asked to be one of the run directors, being in charge Big responsibility, but seeing the smiles at the end of the run is just fantastic

Make sure you keep it moving more likely to be sore hamstring than tear. Make sure you hot and cold it and nothing to strenuous but do keep mobile

Yes see a qualified sports physio as soon as possible (definitely not your GP). Ask your local running club for a recommendation. All the other advice is good too, but it’s important you get it assessed, treated and a plan for rehabilitation. It’s worth the time and money to ensure you don’t do more damage.

I decided earlier this week to download the c25k app. After doing my own jogging alongside everyone (but without a plan) for the last 12 weeks, i feel i have come to a stand still.

Dont get me wrong i have seen change from the beginning, from not being able to breathe after 30 seconds jogging and having to walk for minutes to feel i am able to go again. Progress has been made and im happy with that.

So i started from the beginning which would of been impossible before (for me). Ive done week 1 run 1&2 today. 2 was better than 1 although maybe thats because i managed to stay on my feet on run 2 rather than a quick trip to greet the floor and leave my mark .

From looking at the weekly plans and what ive done so far. I think week 4 may be where i start to struggle. Perserverance will win though (hopefully)

It is amazing how you can do, I found that I pushed myself because I knew I'd get a breather soon, if I didn't manage it then I'd re-do that one again next time. You will get there I've found it better with the app and support from here

I live on top of a hill so there's always an uphill somewhere! But there's always a downhill too ....I tried a flat run and thats harder as you have to constantly keep going

I’ve passed week 9 so just going out 3 times a week and running for 5k now. Surprisingly a few times I’ve staggered to a halt after about 20 minutes but last night I did 5k in 35:37 and sprinted the final 100m

No I didn't, I've seen people with 50 and 100 T shirts, I was told it was for doing them at there own track "

The milestone t-shirts can be done at any combination of events. However, most people pick one and become part of the community. Doing 50 or 100 all at different events is difficult because you don't get the community feeling from it (because you are a stranger at every single event).
