Maybe because they don’t exist in the first place and are afraid that if you see them you might say yes

I tend to respond with “thanks for message but can’t see your profile”

They then either unhide it or don’t. If they don’t then it kinds of shuts thing down.

Don’t take it personally, folk do it for all sorts of reasons.
