So today I had to fill a form out for work. Sat and looked at the sexuality question for ages. Its the first time since discovering my Bi side i have come across it. I lied purely because the person I had to give the form to I work with.
I Wouldn't have wanted it getting out, however part of me thinks i should have just been honest.
Anyway I'm assuming a fair few others fib on those questions. |

There and to the left a bit |
In your circumstances I'd have probably done the same - although there is a part of me that even in those circumstances your employer has a duty of confidentiality which should protect you.
Certainly in any other situation I can think of where it's relevant or likely to be asked, I will answer honestly that I'm bisexual |

I'm incredibly 'out and proud' in all areas of my life and quite open that I've had romantic relationships with women in the past. I've never had a problem from anyone about it. |

I really wondered what to put, its not my employer that was the problem, I'm new in the team although been with the employer years, just not sure on how she would have dealt with the response. |

I don’t think I can really have an opinion as to what I’d do if I was bi sexual or gay.
But I can certainly understand why someone would just put straight. Despite what people say I honestly think there is certainly still stigma against gay/bi guys especially.
Maybe not outright hate or anything but certainly backhanded indirect comments. |

Surely these questions are optional, and have no bearing on your ability to do your job?
Why do you feel obliged to tell your employers? |

As effectively a representative of your employer she'd have been duty bound to deal with it as anyone else should with confidentiality and respect - however appreciate that regardless of that there are some people in supervisory roles who would still be prone to gossip or the wrong reaction, so your caution is totally understandable especially if it's a new manager who you don't know that well |

I think the government just make them ask those things so they have statistics to prove they are being diverse. Also if it came out later and you felt it was affecting your job through bullying or discrimination ect it makes it easier for you to show your employer was aware and didn't protect you.
I usually put other or none disclosed if they have those options |

Yes it's for diversity reasons mostly and statistics.
I'm not proud or ashamed of my sexuality, it just is, I haven't done anything to earn it. If I'm asked in an official capacity I don't answer though. |

If it's for diversity statistics then it should be done in a way that is completely anonymous. If your answer is being seen by any person that you are known to personally, then the company is breaching so many confidentiality rules that they want shutting down. Personally I think you should just write "none of your fucking business" across it. |

If it was for a promotion etc then you should have ticked it and no doubt you would have a better chance as they need to keep in line with equality box ticking exercises, nothing to do with anyone's ability to perform |

I've never lied on a form about my sexuality I always put bisexual, if people have a problem it's their problem not mine.
I don't go around jumping on my work colleagues nor do I make sexual references or innuendos which is more than I can say for them. |
