What a wonderful and friendly man he was. Immensely talented too. Met him on a few occasions when he was at the Leeds City Varieties. His shows were amazing and on one occasion he didn't finish until the early hours. He genuinely loved performing on stage, and he genuinely loved people. Even after several hours on stage Ken would have plenty of time to chat with fans.
Just about all the great legends have gone now.

At his trial for tax evasion he said that his finances were confused as his accountant had died. Prosecuting counsel asked if that mattered. "it mattered to him" said Ken.
There you are, Ken getting a joke out of a death. By all accounts he was quite able to laugh at himself as well. Apparently his tax difficulties became a staple part of his act. |

Had grown up as a kid just down the road from him near Thomas lane,met him a few times.nice man...he was so fast. couldn't control his comedy,he was born to do it... couldn't help crack a joke,his gag archive is as rare as the man himself..the world has lost a great comedian (I challenge anyone to watch a gig and not laugh,it's like eating a sugar doughnut without licking your lips) but gained a legend. |

Saw his shows three times. Last I went to was December 2016. Think it finished at 2am .
Previous one, I left at quarter to midnight when it was the interval.
A superb musician, comedian and thoroughly lovely gentleman.

The words Legend and Genius seem to be attached to any Entertainment/Celebrity who die these days, whether they were actually any good or not.
In Ken Dodds case they are truly deserved. A real genius and comedy legend!! |
