Anything "deleted" by windows is actually still there, in a little place called "the recycler" (sounds like a batman villain), with very little knowledge and a bit downloading, hard drive files deleted can be reincarnated. Use a programme called bcwipe to go over you hard drive seven times with binary, zeros' and ones' (dod recommended, no not ken).

And the joyfully hand over your laptop to anyone safe in the knowledge that all data of a personal nature has been replaced with said binary, virtually impossible to recover data from that outside a forensic laboratory.....

Extreme? Don't know really, but I like to be the only one using my credit card....

Try using the private browsing feature in future, it doesn't store any history in this mode, not sure if IE does this? but Firefox does

Yes IE does it too. Just right click in the Explorer icon and look down the list which appears, look under 'Tasks' then click on 'Start In Private Browsing'

I've just typed it into Google and the 4th one in the list took me to a forum which in turn had a link to a free download

I use a free program called CCleaner. (previously Crap Cleaner)

just Google it and select the one from filehippo. Its a faster download. It will delete any unwanted programs and clean all searches from cache.

Don't forget to 'prove' the machine by looking for any offensive material you KNOW is there, before the handover. Better you find it before someone else!

Good luck.
