Try meditation they said.....
It's good for you they said...
Except I can't do it, my mind won't shut up for long enough, I never realised what an incessant inner monologue I had going on until I tried to shut it the he'll up.
Does anyone have any tips because this meditation lark is stressing me out |

It takes practise.
I (fem) was like you to begin with. Practise concentrating on the pattern of your breathing as often as you can, it calms your mind.
Don't expect too much too soon, if you can even manage 20 seconds t first you can work on that.
It's so beneficial sticking with it once you have mastered it and you can see and feel the difference. x |

It takes time to shut out the outside world and internal thoughts .
To recognise you have noticed them is good . Congratulate yourself on noticing . Remember to be compassionate to yourself and keep trying |

"Try a guided meditation on youtube.
Pop earphones in and shut the world out!"
I tried guided meditations, just ended up thinking how annoying the voice was, I think I need to find new one lol |

But seriously. My own inner monologue used to also prevent me from properly being able to enter a meditative state. The method of concentrating on an imagined object, or reciting a mantra was one way that it sometimes worked for me (although not always. Sometimes my overactive imagination would go off on tangents and I'd be miles off track if I wasn't careful |

It is not easy and takes time. Meditation is basically an exercise aimed to learn how to control our attention and focus it where we want.
Keep you attention on your breath. In a few seconds your inner monologue will appear again and when it happens go back to your breath.
With practice, you can change to other physical sensations and eventually, leave apart that thoughts.

Just notice your inner chatter and let it go, then focus on your breathing.
Your inner chatter can actually be dealt with like a magic radio. It has a volume control. You can turn the volume down, up or off. You can even imagine it in the sexiest voice you can think of or make it sound Donald Duck. You can imagine it’s different parts of you as different ‘beings’ all talking to each other. You are in control of your mind. Take charge you are its boss. |

"Go with someone who fishes ( or fish yourself ), it works a treat"
Was trying to work out what bizarre, relaxing/kinky ritual this was.
Fishing,like on a river

I'm going to set some time aside to try all these suggested techniques thankyou.
Only another week until my puppy is old enough to get out walking and then I have an excuse to disappear for an hour into nature and just "be at peace". Might find it easier then |
