Pop to a local dealership and see what they’ve got and which takes your fancy. They all take you from A to B at the end of the day, it just depends what bells and whistles you want!

There are a few Smart for2 in good condition for that money. Economical, fun and hold their value well

Civic type R

Good fun to drive

Super reliable

Hilarious when you use the Rev range

Poor economy won’t matter since it’s a short trip

Seriously worth vonsidering big old brute find a good one, had the cam belt done when we bought at 73000

Awesome machine

You see people look at it their mirrors and think nothing of it, no changing gear foot to the floor and overtake it is immensely satisfying

Had mine remapped and hence she pulls like a train, but if you take it easy you get a really good return

I was a master tech for Citroen for 12 years and there the same car so I know what you're saying. They're just awful. Engines are good just electrics are shit.

Depends on what your after, if you’re sensible you’d go with youngest car, lowest mileage which rules out the brands. If you like your brands, you’d have to go older car with higher mileage. For reference, I’d choose the later. You mentioned an Audi A3 - great choice. I miss my Audi A5 sline. Audi’s have great build quality.

I said the same yesterday on a similar thread. Citroen really let themselves down with the cheap electrics, they’d be good cars otherwise.

You can get a lot of car for 5k, it’s not pocket change. If you’re looking to keep the insurance down and you’re only doing short journeys the the 1.4i petrol focus is a good option. Cheap to run, cheap tax and insurance and pretty bullet proof. You’ll get a good 13 plate for your 5k, maybe newer.

Forget 4 wheels, get yourself a motorbike and start enjoying life.

A nice starter bike will be about £5000
