Survival stories - Beast from the East

Anyone got any tales of daring do?

We got home at 3am last night, L's trusty steed performed admirably for a RWD sports car, surviving from London to Leeds until the -7c killed the battery along with the traction control... Slide slide spin spin, dead. How she managed to get it into a layby I'll never know.

I dug out and fired up the Quattro, eventually got through the motorway lunatic lorries and slippy stuff, where we waited 3 hours for a 90 minute recovery estimate to arrive.

How long did it actually take to arrive? It didn't. 3 hours was our limit we abandoned the mission and the car, pushed it further into the side and put out the warning triangle. We really hope it's still in one piece.

Extreme sub zero temperatures, a woman on her own and the recovery people didn't even bother to ring back for an update. The police did stop to check on her to be fair to them. And as the night went on we had more good Samaritans stop to offer moral support. Including a pair of very friendly Russians who clearly weren't phased by the snow. Sadly their jump leads were too short to reach.

Anyone else had to mount any rescues last night?
