decided to have some hot buttered crumpets - butter was rock hard so put into the microwave - only needs about 8 seconds to soften - guess who forgot and the whole pack melted - as bad as a dropped raw egg - hahaha  |

I tried the covering it with a hot glass trick-didn't work. So, I put in on a plate-after chopping it into cubes-and rested it on a pan of hit water-that worked. |

Old technology - have you heard of a butter bell? I have one. It's a ceramic bell which uses water to insulate against the extremes of heat and cold so it's spreadable. |

i dont have a second doodar on my microwave - just a knob to turn - anything less than a minute and it doesnt register - i bought basic as rarely use a microwave

You'd get a better microwave for less second hand. They lasted for decades, the modern one I bought from Tesco burnt a hole in itself. I rarely used it. Not impressed with that. |
