Ive been "strongly advised" to work from home today by my boss instead of going into work. My boss is 26 year old 'right on' vegan and appears to be frightened off by snow and has "encouraged" the other, equally as young team members to follow suit.
So a big thanks to our British education system and wussy bloody schools for the last 15 years of closing down at the the mere mention of white stuff and for producing a bunch of absolute fucking pussies who cant even be arsed to try to get into work.

we’ve found that those who use public transport will always come to work, assuming said public transport is running of course, and those who normally drive will stay home, i found the roads to be earlly quieter than usual yesterday, and the snow wasn’t really that bad here  |

I’m in work, but if at any time I felt it was unsafe to travel I wouldn’t put my safety and well-being at risk.
I’d rather work from home (I know not all vocations can do this!) and be called a pussy than spend all day stuck in traffic jams in sub zero temperatures or spend the day in A&E or at worst, a morgue.
It depends on the severity of the weather, a light dusting and I see your point. A blizzard and I’m happy to be a pussy! |

I pointed out to her yesterday when she was shitting herself over the forcast that my former Community Nursing colleagues would be out on foot if they had to, to keep patients safe because they actually give a shit. Im thoroughly fucking ashamed to be working in this corporate twattish part of the NHS grrrr |

I have to drive to Manchester from Leeds. I have decided that if I work from home the world will be a safer place. Aside from that, at least this way when the apocalypse comes I am safe at home and prepared as I stocked up in 237 loaves of warburton’s and 16, 4 pint green top milks to go with the 5 space blankets I thought i’d better buy in case from the opportunistic convenience store I was purchasing the mandatory snow shovel from because the one from last years dusting is buried in the garage somewhere. |

Horrendous here, not a single car has moved, no signs of any public transport moving. Snowfall was massive in the north causing a lot of major roads to be closed. I am not put off driving because in the snow but unfortunately alot of people do not know how to drive in the snow and I will not put the little peoole in my life at risk by putting them in the car. The weather is an inconvenience but I do love seeing and hearing happy children playing out and enjoying snow day. However I am not looking forward to playing catch up with my work load when I eventually get back to work. |

Makes me laugh, I lived in Bratislava for a while, it was like this from November to March, nothing stopped, no one dreamed of not going to work, we are so funny when it comes to snow, I guess it’s because we don’t get it regularly |

I positively leapt at the chance to drive in today. Got to play with my new Chelsea Tractor was a great drive in as the roads were more or less empty.
It would be exaggerating to say we have had an inch of snow but come 08:30 the excuses came flooding in. I am thinking of offering to go round picking people up in order to hear the horror. |

How times have changed!
When I was at school back in the late 60's / early 70's, schools remained open in towns and cities and Pupils made it in to school.
Yes, the playgrounds were sheet ice but that made for more fun and games in breaks and lunch times.
Nowadays, head teachers or school authorities are so scared of H&S that at the sight of a snow flake 100 miles away, up go the shutters and schools are closed
What an example of grit & responsibility to show to impressionable young minds! |

When I worked in corporate world I found it more productive to work from home on snow days. The technology was there to do it and it seemed better to be getting on with my work, having telephone calls etc. than sitting in my car for hours listening to the news about all the problems. If the option is there, use it. But I appreciate not all jobs allow for this. At least it lightens the road traffic chaos for those who do need to travel on reduced rail and bus services or try driving. |

I was also at school in the late 60s and 70s. My schools closed when it snowed. The teachers were often unable to get into work and some pupils (me included) lived on a very steep hill and struggled to get anywhere. |

I am with you on this OP. Gone are the days when kids walked to school in all weathers and teachers would stay within a short distance as well. Giving us work to do while a teacher popped her head in now and again if our teacher was absent. Maybe we were just more well behaved kids. No phones to distract us.
Today I know other NHS workers have been told to stay at home. I know there will be nurses who can’t get home so will either work an extra shift or try and sleep in the hospital. Others close enough to walk will offer their services if wards are short staffed.
We have 5” of snow here. Trains and buses are affected. If it wasn’t for the fact that I’m off work anyway I wouldn’t have made it. Everyone used to make more of an effort to clear roads and paths. Now we just hibernate.
I too fear for our future. They are called the Snowflake generation for a reason!

I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night half an hour before I went to bed, drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad and our mother would kill us and dance about on our graves singing Hallelujah

I've driven 40 miles to work in deep snow this morning, I enjoy it, it's proper driving weather! We all drive like drones every day in normal weather conditions, it's not often you get to really test yourselves and your skills |
