Ok this is very personal to me and a very touchy subject. Basically i suffer with depression which brings out my anxiety in full force. For the past few days ive bottled my emotions but i have been feeling down. And tonight its got ten times worse. Please can i not have any backlash about asking on here but i would like advice on how to help. Ive been to professionals and ive got medication but nothing helps. |

I suffer as well and feel you're pain buddy. I've recently tried meditation which has helped me a bit. |

I struggled with meditation, however I've found lucid dreaming helps massively. If you look it up on you tube there are some simply to help you relax. It can be trial and error with them, sometimes the person's voice is enough to make me worse!
It's the guided meditation I use and there are loads to choose from. |

MIND have an excellent website with forums... i found them a big help. Also the Samaritans are not just there for the heavy stuff, they are good listeners and sometimes just venting is enough to get you through.
Stay strong you are not alone. Even opening up on here was a big brave step so well done x

Go back to your GP and explain. I've changed doses and meds when needed to cope better. Locally to me there is also a Wellbeing service offering group classes and online therapy, see if your local mental health team do anything like that. If you have an anxiety spike, look up grounding exercises online.I learnt a breathing technique a few years back that helps, simply counting out for longer than breathing in (eg 4 counts breathing in, then 6 to 8 breathing out again).
Talk to friends and family to explain you need extra support. Focus on basic self care- a glass of water, brush teeth, even moisturising in this weather can help remind you that you can take care of yourself. Yes, online resources like MIND can be useful. Much as I like Fab, this is a terrible site if you're struggling. Maybe take a week off here |

Hiya mate. I have been in very dark places. I’ve have up and down days. Some of them better than others. It’s not easy to discuss. Especially in public. However, that said the first step is beginning dialogue. I have had therapy in the past and it helps massively. I also have had the balls to stand up and admit it to friends and loved ones. But when you’re on your own it’s hard to see the woods for the trees and everything feels such a struggle. Limiting your online time is a great way to switch off but if it’s an outlet to keep your mind from the issues then it can help. There’s also a group called andy’s man club. Google them. They are popping up all over now. They are just guys like you and me. Really helpful. But keep your chin up. I know it’s easier said than done. Been there got the tshirt but do not suffer in silence. |

I suffer with depression too, get yourself out and amongst friends. Don’t shut yourself away. Talk to a good friend, and share how you feel. There are some good tools out there to help, the mind website is good and has lots of useful links to self help. Also ask your gp about counselling. Medication on its own isn’t always the answer for everyone. Be kind to yourself and take care x |

Also, it might be an idea to get back to your GP. Medication isn't as straightforward as "take these you'll feel better"
I'm on my 3rd lot of tablets, the first didn't agree with me at all, the second lot did, but I still felt out of control. So they upped the dose of that brand and that got me on an even keel.

Samaritans are good if you need to rant or offload. They also have an email service.
Don't know if you are working but some employers have an Employee Wellbeing scheme. I can access councelling and various other help thro mine for free.
There is also CALM, the Campaign Against Living Miserably, which is aimed at mens mental health.
Hug of support to you

The hardest thing to understand is that there is no magic cure. Antidepressants take a while to take full effect, therapy can take time firstly to organise and then to begin unpicking the issues causing your anxiety.
Do you have family you can talk to? A good friend?

I agree, it took 3 attempts to get my doseage right when i was on medication. Very much trial and error.
Let them know it’s not working OP, the medication may also take a while to kick in. The Samaritans are good, they listen and don’t judge and might have some useful numbers for you to contact in your local area. Also, as others say, check out the MIND website.

I've got mild depression so I know where you're coming from and it sucks!
The Samaritans phone line is great if you ever just need to rant but personally I've found the best thing is to do a bit of exercise.
It'll be hard to start but if you can manage to go out for a run or do a few body weight things like push ups at home, it'll release endorphins that will help a lot.
All the best man. |
