Am i doing anything wrong?

Fitted brand new wipers, and when tested them out they left a wide (about 5 cm wide) smear where the blade isnt touching the windscreen.

Ive tried flexing them so they're not stiff but no luck. Anything else I can try?

Take them off and refit them?

I don't think turn it off and on again would work with this particular issue.
