FAB CRAP RUNNERS' CLUB

WEEK NINE!!!!

MOTTO: We run #LikeAToddlerChasingAPug

.

.

.

Well done Crap Runners!

It's Week Nine! On 1st Jan (or thereabouts) we all signed up for a nine-week running programme to move us from Couch to 5km. I'm genuinely a little moved to say that, nine weeks later, we've come so far.

127 runners joined the thread. 20 fabulous folk reported progress during Week Eight. With several smashing through that 5km or 30 minute barrier and more due to do so this week.

We've got three more newbies (welcome!).

.

.

.

QUESTION: We'd planned for this to be a nine-week thread. I'd suggest that we continue the Fab Crap Runners' Club and merge it with Twat's parkrun thread. I'd like to keep the Crap vibe going but I'd hate to lose the support of this group. What do you all think?

.

.

.

STOP PRESS...STOP PRESS...STOP PRESS... STOP PRESS... STOP PRESS... STOP PRESS

FAB CRAP RUNNERS' CLUB SOCIAL!!!!!!!

We are having a Fab Crap Runners' Club social at the end of week nine. Everyone is welcome (runners, coaches and supporters).

Date:

Saturday 3rd March at 9am (meet from 8.30am)

Venue:

Great Denham parkrun http://www.parkrun.org.uk/greatdenham/

Followed by:

Coffee, cake and gossip at about 10am at Brewers' Fayre, Marsh Leys, MK42 7FY

What to do:

Put the date in your diary and register for free with parkrun on the link above. I'll figure out the finer details ASAP.

RSVP:

Please let me know on this thread if you're intending to come along.

But, but, but:

I know - it's bloody terrifying! Running with actual runners at an actual event! But you have options.

(i) I will do the course with the slowest person in our group (and may well be the slowest person come to think of it). If we need to walk the whole thing, that's what we'll do. So no one in our group will be last - the slowest two of us will cross the line together.

(ii) I'll come up with a way of us identifying each other that doesn't "out" us as Fab-folk. I won't carry a giant sign that says "Swingers Assemble Here".

(iii) If you don't want to do the course or you're not ready for it, my other-half will be hobbling around on an ongoing knee-injury at the finishing line and will gladly stand with you and chat away about all sorts of rubbish.

(iv) Or, if you have any sense at all, you'll feign injury and just meet us in the pub afterwards.

Now back the the thread....

Attending are: Bitch, goodtimes_888, HarryJones1975, Mrs Trellis, Only-Drew, Psylocke, stevenelden44, TopsyRogers, Twat. XXXX Please all PM me a contact number of you're happy to XXXX

Maybes are: Missy and Ginge, tandh.

(Tell me if I've missed anyone!)

.

.

.

EXPLANATION:

If you're unsure what the Fab Crap Runners' Club is all about from 1st January, we're all trying to improve our fitness through "Couch to 5k" (C25K) which is a nine-week running programme for absolute beginners, available on various free phone apps (I'm using Get Running). A few people are getting fit by other means including walking and cycling - all are welcome.

We're all expecting to be utterly crap at it but we're doing it anyway - yay us!

New members are still very welcome - post on this thread and I'll add you to the list next week.

.

.

.

THE OFFICIAL MEMBERS OF THE FAB CRAP RUNNERS' CLUB:

Adam 1971 A very old man now. Done Week Eight Run Three. 4.2km in 28 mins. (Hope you had a fun birthday - the 46 year old you couldn’t have done what 47 year old you can do!)

Bitch_and_Twat Hasn't said much about running this week - has mainly been littering my beautiful thread with football talk… (Oi - focus on the job in hand!)

BoPeep1 Week Seven Run Three done! (You star - you're racing through the weeks now).

Chasing waterfalls Week Eight Run One done. 28 mins of running. (Well done - you're right on track. Awesome!)

Gentleman Jay Has been running. (How's it going Jay?)

goodtimes_888 Did four miles without stopping. Coming to the social. (So glad you're coming to the social).

HarryJones1975 Our non-running runner has been to the theatre and had short, gentle sex. (Good work Harry! Keep it up )

Kinkynomad Newbie! Would like to join in with the thread. (Welcome! Please do join in and let us know what running you're doing. The crapper, the better!)

lilac_bunny Newbie! Running 25 mins twice a week and can do 5km of combined walking and running. (Welcome! You're more than welcome in this group - you're at a similar level to most of us. Post your updates when you want to)

Lookingforlust Three runs completed last week and more planned this week. (How did they go?)

Miles Away Girl Running Week Five. (Channel the hatred you had for that personal trainer and go for it. You're improving with every run. We know you can do it!)

MrsTrellis Sickness bug scuppered end-of-the-week progress but I'm gonna run 5km next week if it kills me (and it might).

MysteriousBrunette Newbie! Would like to run but thinks she can't. (You so can. We're crap - you'd fit right in. Join us if you'd like to. X)

northerndels1000 Week Six Run Three done! Uphill is proving difficult but is still managing well over 5km. (What's a hill? We don't have them in the Fens…. Keep at it - you're amazing!)

Only-Drew Took up running four years ago. Today ran the Baldock Beast Half Marathon in under 2 hours! (That's awesome. So impressive!)

signorina Done Week Seven Run One - 5km in 35.39 mins. (That's fantastic - 5km!!!! How's your auntie doing?)

tandh Ran the 25 minute run and then lifted weights! (That's super-human stuff! Very well done indeed!)

tigercub89 Did 10km with a five minute break! (That's awesome! How's the prep for your race going?)

Topsy Rogers Did 5km and managed not to throw up. (That's excellent. Running without throwing up or dying is our aim!)

Yes indeed, let’s keep this thread going Mrs T. We’ll pm you contact numbers for Bitch and Twat for Saturday. The social may end up being at 10:15-10:30 rather than 10am on Saturday morning though...

A way of identifying the FCRC? Umm...this could be interesting...as will be the run having not managed to get out for 10 days and being away with work this week.

Hi all, relativity new to FAB but not running. After a lovely chat with Mrs Trellis last night I thought I'd pop in and say hi and how fantastic I think you all are for doing this ! I'm very happy to join you as a virtual coach/supporter and if I can advise or support anyone please message me.....If your local I'd be happy to go for a real run with you if that would help! I regularly run at the 5-10k distance and do have one half marathon under my belt....Finally don't be put off by the cold snap, running in the cold is excellent training !

You fibber

However I did manage to do 30 minutes as the nice lady in my headphones said. Last week was 28 minutes and I did about 4.2k, this week at 30 minutes I only did about 4.3k but I could feel my pace was slower.

Hopefully that’s because I wasn’t sure I could do it and if I stick at it I’ll get quick enough to do 5k in that time.

Can I collect my free blow job from the organisers now?

Update. I peddalled very fucking fast Monday morning when the nice man in his white van got out to have a word with me after deciding his shouting and swearing through the open window whilst blocking the road to do so, was not sufficient enough. Had he caught me I would not have been in any fit to state to be going anywhere for some time. Energy is definitely back though

"That means you're a proper runner

Are you the first of week 9?"

Yes, all the runs this week are 30 minutes with no walking except for the 5 minutes warm up and cool down. Being outside for 40 minutes last night was very chilly but by Wednesday I think the temperature is due to drop another few degrees

We can do this

Dangerous game to compare your pace to others, just run how you feel comfortable for now, is training not racing! Good/bad is all relative and subjective.

I was looking at last week's parkrun results, and the times varied between 16 and 52 minutes, so there's a full range of abilities and experience out there, so nobody needs to feel out of place.

That’s like saying are you a member of a proper church when a church just means a group of people who come together usually to worship something.

A club is a club. We are unique in that we are like toddlers chasing pugs. Pah to so called “proper” clubs.

I’ve just come back from a run, got about 15 minutes done and the freezing headwind hit me, combined with a spot of icy pavement.

I walked the rest of the way. The pug would have got away today

Another 4 miles done, actually not as bad as I thought it would be given it was -6, well wrapped up with hat, buff and gloves, but still comfortable running in shorts.

Too. Fecking. Cold. Even on the treadmill Week 5 is lasting an awfully long time in Shitsville.

I’m envious of all you elite crap runners! You’re an inspiration

I've had my thinking cap on and decided I'm not jogging in this weather. Calves still ache slightly from the other day, so not risking it.

First time I'm missing one

I jogged through a snow laden cemetery today and then ran on the safe pavement for a train in wellies.

So hopefully this will be a bit of counter intuitive support.......your a new runner, you want to keep to your training schedule, your not feeling quite up for it, then you look outside. The beast from the east, Storm Emma.....you don't run, you feel guilty and crap for not sticking to your schedule. Let me let you into a secret. Firstly your a runner, because otherwise you wouldn't care, secondly now your a runner unless your in competition your schedule is flexible. Don't sweat the runs you don't do, focus on the ones you do and lastly a bad run is better than no run. #givethatpugarunforitsmoney !

UPDATE...UPDATE...UPDATE... UPDATE...

NEW DATE... NEW DATE... NEW DATE...

FAB CRAP RUNNERS' CLUB SOCIAL!!!!!!!

We are having a Fab Crap Runners' Club social at the end of week nine. Everyone is welcome (runners, coaches and supporters).

NEW Date:

Saturday 17th March at 9am (meet from 8.30am)

As most of us haven't run for a few days, how do we start again? Do we go back a few days or just push through?

I’m dressed and ready to go. If it’s any help, I’ve not been following any plan, just putting one foot in front of the other until I can’t.

Try the last session you did and see how it feels...or go back 1 if you have had a bit more time off...

Maybe a rule of thumb might be 3 days is fine, another 3 days (6 in total) then repeat the last session, another 3 days (9 in total) then go back 1 session, etc...
