If you know the type of sound card you've got you can download and reinstall the driver for it.
The other option is to do a system restore back to a day you know it was working. You will lose any files you've created since that date though.
To do a restore click Start/Programmes/Accessories/System Tools and then select System Restore or Back and Restore Centre.
From there you simply tell it what date you want to restore from and let it do it's thing. |

sometimes updates from microsoft will change your sound settings without consulting you. (apparently cos some software don't pay certain fees?). Go check your settings and don't download updates unless you really need em. |

Many thanks folks, tried the system restore and investigated the sound system but think I may need a new card. Will contact Dell services Friday when I'm at home. xxx |

Just spent two hours on the phone to a Dell technician, the speakers are fekked!
But I still get sound through the earphones and plug in speakers so all is not lost.
Plus side is a technician will be at my door tomorrow to replace the fekked speakers on my lappy.
Thanks all for your help and suggestions. ( except soapy ) |

I paid £60 last year to extend my warranty, he replaced a hard drive and the fan and the keyboard shortly after. Now the speakers are being done and I still have over 700 days left on the warranty. Should manage to replace all the components by then. |
