Warming your car up

How much do you or your partner warm up your car before travel on a cold/frosty morning?
A neighbors fella dutifully braves the freeze here to warm it up for a good 10 minutes and scrapes the ice off. Do you get this attention? |

Two sets of keys/remotes.leave car running and lock car door.?
Bit annoying for the neighbours tho all that noise and more to the point pollution belting out .
In Islington you have to turn your Car off just when in traffic |

I warm my little car up for about 10 minutes. Was frozen solid this morning.
It is illegal to drive with only a little bit of the screen done and rightly so. |

I have s heated windscreen. Fiesta doesn’t take long to heat up. My neighbours tend to leave their engines running. We’re in a cul de sac so I’m sure there’s nit much danger of a theft.
Wish I got as much attention as these cars. |

"I scr ape my windows and get on with it. Even open the windows if I get a bit steamy.
A bit of cold never hurts (unless you get frostbite)." my car would warm up at the sight of you |

Milk carton of room temp water with a couple of dashes of vodka poured over windows to de-ice, already wrapped up warm from taking the dogs out so I just jump in and go, no fancying around. My wee car warms up quite quickly, and with my travel coffee and some good songs to belt out I don't even notice the cold! |

Beaten too the old boast of a ford patented heated windscreen.
I literally sit in my car turn the heaters on, 30 seconds ready to go.
Before I get in though I always check windscreen wipers free, as if they are stuck frozen and you try to move them you could burn motor out. |

Heated seats are a life-saver this time of year!
Modern cars do not need to warm up and doing so only generates more pollution and more grimy deposits in your engine. Oh that and I live in Leeds so ‘icing’ is a concern |

When I come downstairs i nip out and spray the windows. Go in have breakfast etc by the time I'm ready to go ~ all clear.
I've got a little fiat that takes ages to warm up but I'm too paranoid to leave the engine running in case it gets nicked!
Best idea yet though is to stay in bed until the sun comes out |

"I just stay in bed until the sun comes up. lol can I join your hat "
The hat just gets chucked on a chair in the corner, so,yes you can join it if you insist.
You can go scrape the ice of my windscreen if you like.

When your engine is cold, the petrol is less likely to evaporate and create the correct ratio of air and vaporized fuel for combustion. Engines with electronic fuel injection have sensors that compensate for the cold by pumping more petrol into the mixture. The engine continues to run rich in this way until it heats up to about 40 degrees.
Warming up your car before driving is a leftover practice from a time when carbureted engines dominated the roads. Carburetors mix petrol and air to make vaporized fuel to run an engine, but they don't have sensors that tweak the amount of petrol when it's cold out. As a result, you do need to let older cars warm up before driving or they will stall out. But it's been about 30 years since carbureted engines were common in cars.

Heated seats and climate control here, so our main car heats up very quickly.
Risky business leaving your car running unattended in this day and age. Too many thrives about.
Wasn't it made an offence to leave your car running unattended? |

My car is in a locked secure area at the side of my house in the garden. So I get the engine running and warm it up as I'm getting a brew and breakfast. Walk out of the kitchen and the car is all de-iced and warm inside.
I feel bad about the environment when I do this but oddly this guilt melts away as sit down in my nice warm car. |

When I was a kid my mom used to send me out to the car with the keys and a shovel. I had to warm it up while I dug it out of the snow. Took about 15-20 minutes. I loved snow, though, so I didn't mind.
When there wasn't snow to dig out it was a bit boring.... |

"I drive an old landy......
Marry me
Erm wouldn’t that be illegal
To be honest with an old Landie the chances of actually arriving at a meet would be pretty slim anyway "
It’s a fair point |
