My kids love skipping stones. We spend ages combing the beach for the right stones! They can normally do 4 or 5 skips

My kids love doing it. We like to see who can skim the most, who can skim the highest over the crest of a wave and who can skim the furthest distance. I imagine less people do it than used to because of modern life but I don’t think it’s dying!

On the sea I can manage five or six but on a flat calm lake my best is eleven. The most amazing stone skip is on a video where the guy launches one over a frozen lake...The sound is incredible.

Ages since I’ve done it, but used to love searching for just the right shaped pebble or piece of slate that skimmed across the water perfectly, skipping umpteen times before sinking into the river lake, unlikely to ever skim and skip again.

I imagined imbuing purpose to the life of that inanimate pebble even if it was just to make me smile for a few moments

Nice nostalgic post - Seeside
