"Fruit scone with strawberry jam and clotted cream, yummy x
Agree. That's the best way to have them.
Cream first then jam"
You’re a wrong ‘un!
Jam THEN thick clotted cream. That’s the PROPER (Cornish!) way, none of this Devonian “cream first” bobbins!! |

Noooooooo!!! You gotta have the melting butter first... Then the jam... Then the chilled cream on top... Otherwise everything slides off |

"I think more to the point...
Are you a Sc-on person
Or
Sc-own"
Ah the old is it pronounced ‘scone’ or ‘scone’ debate.
Me? I pronounce it ‘scone’. As it should be. |

"Raspberry jam please, not getting drawn into cream or jam first politics. However is requesting coffee rather than tea controversial?? "
Ooooo... Highly controversial!! Suggest drinking it from a China teacup with pinkie finger extended so you don't spook the natives! |

"Lavender... on my bed.
Lavender you say? I've had a geranium sponge... But lavender on scones seems unusual
I squirt lavender on my bed. I never squirt cream.
"
Ah I see... Taking high tea in bed.... Watch out for crumbs! |

Strawberry jam first and a small amount of clotted cream
Now Swing has made an observation regarding the serving of scones up north. We seem to serve them as part of afternoon tea with jam and cream already on them. That isn’t something that happens EVERYWHERE because I’ve sampled a few afternoon teas. Does it only occur up north? |

Shared? You shared a scone?? Are you mad???? Scones are to be devoured greedily with much slapping away of hands |

Interesting question...
Over here they're served whole, warm, with butter, cream and jam on the side... You cut and build your own how you like it
Looking forward to seeing how its done elsewhere.. |

No butter x
I like the hint of saltiness butter gives it "
Butter is poison and you will die. The only thing worse and more poisonous are custard creams |

Bit of advice to those who do squirt, give the tip a thorough rinse before you pop it away. That way when you whip it out again to have another squirt later on, nobody will be all like ‘Urghh, it’s got mould on it’.
