Should shops be closed on a sunday?

Well as I work 6 days a week Sunday is often the only time I get to go to a shop, so I'd have to say no they shouldn't...
Although I often do most of my shopping online... |

This is why yes.
I've no particular problem with them being open, but I do feel strongly that people who work in retail should have a weekend too.

No... it makes it a pain in the ass when working a Sunday night shift and you have to food and the only place open at 2am is maccies.
Also... if I have to work every weekend, why shouldn’t everyone else.

Nonetheless it was nice for everyone to have a day of rest on the same day, everywhere was so quiet and sleepy it was lovely. |

I am in favour of giving more employees control upon their working conditions, including not having to work on any of the 7 days in a week.
Whilst quiet towns can be a lovely refreshing break from when they are busy, the UK already has problems with many town centres nearing death, because people have been pulled out of town. OK, they could all have restrictions.
I don't think there is the political or public motivation to change things in the UK. |

For those in favour of shops shutting, what would you suggest to replace the lost revenue the business make or the taxes raised?

Close the shops sundays
Back to a day of rest instead of living and working like robots
What they don't realise is .......work on a Sunday ruins your Saturday night as you have to stay in stay sober and go to bed early (in most cases) |

I worked in retail for years
Sundays were always the best days to go to work
6 hours of work for an 8 hour day, lunches always paid for , 2 days off in the week to go & enjoy anywhere i wanted , never having to cue up or be surrounded by massive groups of bored people who need to go out shopping on there weekends off.

What you say make a sense, but we've created this 24/7 culture with little value on family/people time?
May be people would spend more on recreational pastimes with more time giving balance? Of course that's speculative but I think it's a shame. No wonder families are so fragmented and distant. |

Working weekends works for me.
And as the poster above you says, I’ll work 24 hours over Saturday and Sunday but have days off during the week.
During that time it’s quieter to go do what I want because the people who moan shops should shut on a Sunday are at work, even though the people who work Sundays are out enjoying time off during the week when places are quiet.....funny really |

It’s about choice, surely, just because a shop is open on a Sunday doesn’t mean you have to use them. I really don’t see what the big deal is. They’re there for those that want to use them, those that don’t can stay away from them. |

Ahh but not everyone does get a day of rest do they? Who would look after the elderly in care homes (or in my case do my butlins bit lol), who would do the emergency operations in hospitals? What if there was no emergency services because Sunday was a day of rest?
Unfortunately it’s the norm now for everything (or almost everything) to be open on a Sunday, if you work in retail then like a vast majority of other sector workers, weekend work is mandatory (unless you are our housemate and she works in a supermarket and point blankey refuses to work a Sunday).

No, for God sake no, I can't go back to everything being shut on a Sunday boring as hell, it's an archaic notion based on christian belief, I'm in no way shape or form religious and although I respect other people's beliefs I don't see why they should be forced on me |

It’s a vicious circle the longer people work the longer shops need to stay open as time goes on we will see every service industry become 24 hour, 7 days a week industries

Shop on line or a days holiday or rates and rent or be allowed to trade longer hours Monday to Friday of the shop owner wants too |

Half day Wednesday I remember that ..and open till 12 Saturdays

They should stay open, it's only 6 hours on a Sunday, so nowhere near normal opening times for most of them. Some people work all week and want to shop Sunday's. Also some shop workers need overtime pay. It's the year 2018 not the 60,s. |

Yes there are few corner shops, even they are closed and as well everyday between 2pm and 5pm when it is siesta time, the roads and side walks are empty the time, which is nice when you are going out for a walk |
