Movie trailers that make you ask why

Jump to: Newest in thread

Ever seen a movie trailer and asked yourself, why is this movie being made?

I've asked myself that question whenever a trailer for a movie that looks awful comes up at my works.

Here are a couple of examples.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again

I don't understand why this sequel is being made as there is no point in it at all. It will just be the same as the first movie with the characters singing the same songs as before.

Peter Rabbit

Why the hell have they made an adaptation so disrespectful to the books of the same name? It looks like a British version of Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Any comic related or Sci fi film but then I realise loads of other folk enjoy them so there must be money to be made

Yeah that's true. It's the same with the fast and furious movies. I don't see the point of it having so many movies as they're always the same.

I often see movie trailers and think ah well, I don't have to watch it now. As they seem to put every interesting bit of the movie in!

I see movies trailers and think everything I'm seeing is big budget, high action and heavily CGI'ed. Where are all the thought provoking or well acted movies?

I remember the first time I saw Goodfellas and though wow what a movie.

Other movies that where acted superbly:

seven pounds, the omen series (original), the shining, the thing, one flew over the cuckoos nest, murder in the first, sleepers and many many more

Many of the semi independent Will Smith movies are pretty good. I am legend & pursuit of happiness.

Especially as I'm not a massive will smith fan

Every time i see one of those shitty "horror" movies where the bad guy just follows around a bunch of teenagers and gradually kills them. On what planet is that entertaining and / or scary?

I know what you mean. Horror movies today seem to have the same plots that lack in good characters and story with either some serial killer or a ghost/demon. Not to mention the ridiculous amount of jump scares that happen every 5 minutes.

I'm starting to wonder if Horror has become a dying genre

I think it has. If we're being honest it peaked with the exorcist and has been downhill ever since except a few flukes like the Blair witch project and exorcism of emily rose

Yeah. The only decent Horror movie I've seen recently is the new movie adaptation of IT. I thought it was really good. At least the antagonist was not some serial killer or a demon this time.

I think you needed to know the back story to appreciate that film. There wasn't really anything that explained that the clown thingy was from outter space unless you already knew it going into the film!

I knew that Pennywise was a shape shifting interdimensional alien from the macroverse that feeds on fear as well as flesh to survive

It just shows that Hollywood has run out of ideas for movies

The new jumanji .... absolute sacrilege and an insult to the memory of one of the greatest humans of the last century, whoever decided to do the the second one deserves to be skinned alive for crimes against humanity...probably a bit harsh but you get the idea

Really recommend the Korean film- train to busan. Watch it and you'll realise everything that's wrong with Hollywood, although bladerunner 2049 was good.

I wouldn’t mind but some of the time the bits in the trailer isn’t even in the bloody film!!!

Fast and furious, why they are still going I have no idea! Should have ended about four movies back (or at least when Paul passed).

Black Panther trailer does look AMAZING though, so maybe Hollywood can still make 'em when they put their minds to it

I'm grateful for a free trailer that makes is film seem terrible. If nothing in the film is better than the 2 minutes of crap, you've saved some life.

We rarely watch trailers to be honest, my kids are obsessed with watching them all, we only see them at the cinema, even then for films Ads really wants to know nothing about he will close his eyes and fingers in his ears (he did it a number of times for Star Wars lol). We usually just pick a film and go and see it, sometimes we pick a film because we’ve seen the trailer at the flicks and usually they end up being the shittest films.

We have cinema cards so we pay a monthly fee and watch as many as we like, we are hoping to see three on Tuesday! We went to an secret unlimited screening in November and saw mollys game, I really wanted to see it because I saw the trailer at the cinema and while it was good, it wasn’t brilliant (i’d recommend going along to a secret screening if you have the cards, it’s a fun night out and we got massive bars of galaxy chocolate lol)

Yeah I'm the same, I never saw one trailer for the last star wars, I knew I was already seeing it so there was no point.

Then if I'm watching a trailer at the cinema and think, ok I want to see this, I'll then stop watching it, I don't need to know anymore about it.

I've just remembered when the emoji movie trailer came out, my first thought was "why have they made this piece of crap? It looks so stupid".

I hate these types of crappy kids movies that treat kids like their stupid by filling the movies with pop culture references and fart jokes. They are not funny

Yep I hate heavily CGI'd movies, I can't enjoy the Marvel ones often as it's just all swooping CGI cameras and too much going on at once on screen. I got the newly released Terminator 2 3D remaster last week, the vast majority of the film barring tbe T-1000 morphing scenes are practical effects and it still looks outstanding today compared to the CGI crap now.

Same with John Carpenters "The Thing", all practical effects and puppetry, and it still looks hideously creepy and real compared to new films.

My mates mom came up with an even better one- following a visit there when she went to the states.

Her description was 'Most of it looks like the arse end of Smethwick' - which should make sense to anyone from Birmingham way

Only in good movies. What I meant by not funny, I meant when they're just thrown in for a cheap laugh

Just remembered seeing a trailer some time ago for a movie that is out now that made me roll my eyes wondering why and that was the movie Show Dogs.

Seriously, if I wanted to watch a movie with talking dogs, I'd watch Look Who's Talking Now.

That maybe true but it's more entertaining than watching a dog getting a bikini wax
