Maybe just me, but seems when you interact with northern members, you seem to get a much more friendlier response than you would from my fellow southerners. |

Northern man here - met a London girl on Fab 7 years ago - we now live together "up north". She says that northern folk are far "warmer" than southern folk.
So, it's not my bias - she is absolutely adamant and I agree. When I meet southerners I generally find them to have a supercillious attitude- sometimes just downright pig ignorant and rude.
There are, of course, exceptions and I do know some "salt of the earth" types too but, in general terms, I think your sentiment is correct. |

I'm a southerner and proud.
You get cunts no matter where you live. North, south, east and west.
This north south devide is total bollocks now. Every person is different. |

" The fuck?!
Sod the North/South divide, it's the East/West that causes ructions. "
Nah, up here we built the Pennines to keep those pesky Lancastrians in their place.
Interestingly, although they don't like it if you call them "Northerners", people from round here still can't say "path" or "scone" properly...

I can't really comment on a north/south divide when it comes to chatting to people on fab - I tend to stick to chatting with those who are pretty local to me.
I have visited a club up north a few times and found it to be really friendly. I like the local clubs but had a much better time at Cupids when I went there.
Whether or not this is down to the location is debatable. The fact it was a bbw event may have some bearing. Maybe everyone just felt a little more relaxed an comfortable so the evening just flowed better. |

Definitely a South-east/Everywhere else thing. In my experience most (not all) folk from the South-east think and act like it's the centre of the known universe |

From my observations, there is a little difference. I am welcomed a little more in the Northeast (15+ years), than I see Northerners welcomed in the South. The gap is widely and wildly exaggerated by northerners in my experience, though. And from what I've seen in my years of drinking, there are far, in fact, FAR more fights on nights out in the north. |

What part of the south east did you work and live in? You can hardly blame the locals for the crap infrastructure and over crowding (although I suppose they could move). |

Worked for a firm that had contracts with various councils in West Sussex,Essex,Kent, and East Sussex so lived and worked all over.Wasn't blaming the locals for the crap infrastructure and overcrowding, was just saying why I would never live and work there again |

Well it's a shame you feel that way about the area we live in and even more of a shame that you found the people mostly thought it was the centre of the known universe. We aren't all like that but I won't try to change your mind. |

I didn't say all locals to the aforementioned areas hold that view I'm assuming you're one of the rare few that buck the trend then? |

I'm a southerner and lived in South Yorkshire for 5 years (back down south now).
I found it a bit difficult to break into the northern 'clique' at first as a standard southern accent was considered 'posh' and consequently people were a bit offish (my teenage daughter was bullied to the extent I removed her from the school).
However, once established and with a bit of effort on my part, I soon made friends and they were absolutely lovely.
I'm back down south now and have lots of friends, old and new. I don't find people down here any less friendly than anywhere else.
By the way - 'the south' is a lot bigger than just London and the south east! |

No, I did say mostly .
I don't know if we buck the trend or not. I'm pretty sure the south east isn't the centre of the known universe and I try not to judge people based on where they live |

Having lived in Suffolk and Yorkshire, the north for me is friendlier. I’ve said “morning” to people in Yorkshire in passing and had a response but Cambridge, they acted like I’d asked to fuck their puppy.
But you get assholes everywhere to be fair. |

I'm from down south and always will be. Rule of thumb from e experience. The further north you go the nicer people are. I've got friends from the north that I've met randomly over the years, been friends for over 15 yrs and they oukdnt do enough for you without any agenda. It's s bit of a blanket statement, but true in more than most situations |

As it's halfterm this next week, I'm off down to 'The Smoke' with the family for a bit of updated touristy sightseeing around the capital. We like to play a game on the Tube where we see if we can make someone smile |

I've lived in the north and south and I can pretty confidently say whilst in certain parts of the north strangers will talk to you more, I wouldn't say friendliness is much different. I can say with 100% certainty, I have never seen more fights or people off their faces in my life than whenever I went out up north |

Most of the population lives in the 'snake'. This issue is really about people who live surrounded by many people and have to manage that and people who live with fewer people to contend with and can claim they are therefore friendlier, warmer and better than everyone else.

I grew up in the Midlands, spent 3 years living in Carlisle and 4 years living in Falmouth.
I explored the surrounding areas extensively while I had the opportunity. I came across arseholes, wankers and cunts everywhere. They were always in the minority and I found most people in most places to be friendly and welcoming.
As far as friendliness goes...the North- South divide is utter bollocks.
There are places north and south that can give an atmosphere of being less than a little warm if you're a stranger but that soon thaws if you make the effort.
I settled in the southwest because it felt right (it's slightly warmer and we haven't had snow for 7 years) but, would be just as happy in the pie eating north or going further south to where the pasty lovers live and just ignore the cunts and wankers wherever I am.
