Bermuda has become the first country to abolish its marriage equality laws, so bad news for any same sex couples planning to marry there.
It was an unpopular recent change with conservative people there, so same sex couples must now have civil partnerships instead. Boris Johnson approved the state rescinding the marriage equality law.
With right wing nutjobs like Reesmogg who are against gay people marrying as well as other freedoms like abortion, maybe other countries will try to return to less free times. |

One of these old Greek philosophers is worth reading up on.
Plato or someone like that.
He charted the rise and fall of democracies against the rise and fall of authoritarian regimes.
If a society made too much social progress too quickly, he observed, it met a conservative, regressive response.
Strip away too many social "norms" too quickly and people turn to those offering a "traditional" remedy.
What today we might call populism, or even fascism.
There were numerous examples in those days and numerous examples since.
Blair understood that progress towards equality was a series of small steps, not one large one, hence he shied away from equal marriage and opted for civil partnership.
A decade later, the concept had gained ground and Cameron took the next step.
In 2018, we are seeing issues of transgender equality come to the fore and witnessing a very conservative reaction in some quarters.
Again, push social change too far too quickly and people will recoil. Socio-political hange is a game of patience, a marathon not a sprint.

He's welcome to use his choice, upon his body, likewise respecting other peoples choices upon their own.
Back to equality - I think we're in a tricky situation pulling up other countries for their abuses of rights and people, when we are complicit in erosion of rights too. |

Actually Bermuda haven't denied any rights to sams sex couples. What they did is make civil partnerships identical in legal strength to marriage, which is what politicians would have done here if their goal was actual equality.
But yes it is difficult to go around preaching about rights when people deny the rights of the unborn not to be murdered. |

I only hope the transgender equality that is welcome at the moment, is not just to gain popularity with the transgender community. As we all know things change very quickly, sometimes for no apparent reason. |
