I chat in a kik group where anyone can join. People can obviously see my profile pic.

I was using my current avatar from here and 2 people assumed I was a fair bit older than my age.

I've since changed it to my face pic and someone insisted I was too young to be there!

What do people normally say to you? Do you look older or younger than your age? Does it bother you?

If you could change it would you?

I definitely look older or weathered as I call it I work outside every day can't help it and it's too late to change now so as the old saying goes what you can't change you must accept

Don’t forget to factor in that many people will tell a little white lie when it comes to ages.

If anyone asks ‘how old do I look’ many people will take years off the true answer to avoid offending people.

if I could change my age ? Yes of course but retain my knowledge ......for me age is a number I'm a sun worshipper so possibly I look slightly older who knows

I've found people are generally shit at guessing ages. I've seen people on here claim to constantly be told they don't look their age and I'm often left looking like this

I’ve just checked your age on here, I must admit I assumed you were probably in your late 30s, 40s. I don’t know on what basis as I’ve never seen you face, maybe it’s because the average age of people on here is around the late 30s / 40s? So yeah, 28 is a surprise.

Quite a lot of people say I don’t look my age, especially when I tell them I have a 28 year old son....even people who aren’t trying to get in my knickers say it

I'm still asked for Id for scratch cards. Never believed I'm 35. It's actually awkward. I look 18. Can find it difficult to be taken seriously.

I think when i let my hair grow (whats left of it) and my beard grow i look older as i have a fair bit of grey going on..but if i keep them both short then id say i look my age.

I agree ... I never lie about my age, therefore I look like I'm 53 because I am! I do think once you get into your 30s though, you start to notice that even within a group of contemporaries some people age better than others and that continues as you get older.

Yes I agree. Some of it is down to genetics but a lot of it is due to hairstyle, clothes and confidence.

Well whenever Ads and my sons come into work I’m always asked, (admittedly it’s my residents living with dementia that ask) if Ads is my son, so I either look really old or he looks really young. Although I do play a great game with them, not just my dementia residents I might add ‘how old am I?’ It ranges from 28 right up to 60!

I don't worry too much about whether I look my age or not, I am content with how I look and wouldn't change it.

How people age all comes down to genetics, exposure to the sun, smoking and diet etc. Even if the medical and cosmetic industries found some magic way to halt aging I don't think I would use it. I would rather grow old gracefully -

or disgracefully

I do occasionally find myself looking a friends pictures on Facebook and think "you really should keep off the sunbeds, your wrinkles are getting a bit deep"

Sin - unfortunately yes. I work outside for a living and have for the last 7 years. There's only so much spf and moisturising can do, so I have no doubt I'll be getting botox again this year.

People often think I'm between 19 (ha!) and 21. A couple of years ago I was volunteering in a charity shop and it was during the school holidays and I was asked if I only volunteered in there when I was off school.

I’m happy to look my age. All I can do is make that age look good.

It makes me uncomfortable that a woman’s worth and appeal decreases after she’s 20. It isn’t the same in all cultures, so why does the West perpetuate it? I’m sick of seeing anti-wrinkle creams advertised by women in their 20’s!

It annoys me that the best compliment a man can give is that I have, 'the body of a 28 year old'.

Sod that. Ageing happens to us all, and there’s damn all we can do about it. By fighting it and fibbing about it, we're placing value on the wrong attributes, so devaluing ourselves.

So tell a woman she looks beautiful, not that she looks young.

So, scanning the thread, most people are told they look younger than they are, which is great news.

Either Fab is full of youthful looking people, or everyone they’ve been speaking to have just been terribly British about it and politely knocking 5 to 10 years off the true age they think people are

Exactly this. I am regularly told I don't look my age. But I just assume people have a skewed perspective of what someone my age is supposed to look like, are generally really shit at guessing, or reckon it's an easy form of flattery as long as they knock a few years off their initial guess.

To most people I look 12!! 18 on a good day. Asked for ID everywhere even fuel and get asked 3 or more times when in pubs I've never been in before. Doesn't help having almost no hair on my body and being whiter than milk.

From my doctor to the guys in the phone shop all comment I don't look my age. The other half was surprised I put my actual age and said I could knock 10 years off.

I'm 57 without any lines or wrinkles: really smooth skin.

Means fuck all really as I'm 57. Think I'd rather be 40 and look 57!

I’ve actualy added a couple of years to my age... why? Because I don’t feel I have a body of someone my age, I don’t have flawless skin or boobs that just sit there. I had my original age and whilst my face always got a good review, my body was always in question. So now, I just add a few years to avoid disappointment.

Everyone thinks I look older - was great when I was younger and I could go out drinking with my boyfriend (now husband) and his friends as he’s four years older than me, but now it’s not so fun

I'm not sure if I look younger or my age , some say younger which is kind of them.

I am just happy in the skin I am in .

I (Mr) look my age and as I am receding on top if I don't cut my hair then I look older. Mrs certainly doesn't look her age and people are often surprised when she tells them her age. Yes it is correct on here.

I'm told I look a few years younger, but the ladies say I'm much fitter and come with far more stamina than those 10 - 15 years younger. I wouldn't know, but sounds good to me.

Think it's hard to tell just from a photo, but if you saw me at work, then I'm running rings round most 20somethings.

When I was a teenager everyone used to say I looked older than I was. but a few years ago I went to meet a mate I hadn't seen for a a couple of years and he said I looked younger than the last time I'd seen him.

One thing this thread has shown me is how vain this site is! 99% of respondents saying how much younger than they actually are they look!
