Inspired by the 'You feel old when...' thread.
What 'old' films would you recommend the young 'uns should watch and why?
Jaws. "We're gonna need a bigger boat!!" And of course the plastic shark. |

All my kids have seen the ‘oldies’ from back in our day (80’s and 90’s), they prefer the original Star Wars and Star Trek films to the newer ones, labryith was one of their faves (not mine, can’t stand it).

""High Plains Drifter"
"The Breakfast Club"
"Dazed and Confused"
"
We tried the breakfast club recently as it’s one of those ‘iconic’ films, have to be honest we only got about 45 mins in and switched it off, did it get better after that?

In a way, but it was very "of it's time". I'd reccomend it more as a "portrait of a generation" type experience.... |

As a boy; I watched "Captains Courageous" with my dear old Dad on the telly. I recently bought the DVD, and sat down and watched it with my Grandson. I was in bits - and my boy loved it too.
We also watched the beautiful (and moving) "The Red Balloon".
He's only 10 now; when he gets a little older; we'll watch "Life is Beautiful" together.
I hope you like my recommendations; and I hope that you and your little ones get as much joy from watching these films as we did. |

I'd like to add "Pan's Labyrinth" to my list. |

My kid's love Goodnight Mr Tom which is an old film for them. They have something in common with Tom and makes them realise that when their own birth parent's fuck up monumentally they'll be other adults that will love and keep them safe. |

I think these are all classics from back in the day and im sure iv missed out a lot more but these are some that are all appropriate for children, although I grew up on stuff like alien, nightmare on elm street, pulp fiction, animal house... everything I wasnt supposed to watch as a kid I watched it and I cant wait to have kids some day so I can watch them experience all these classics for the first time and scare them from time to time by watching something they are waaay too young for |

It's a heart warming film along with a good helping of loss in there to balance thing's out. |

Any of those old Ray Harryhaussen monstery type films like Sinbad and the eye of the tiger, just so you can give them a reminder when they moan about how "unreal" any of the Jurassic park movies look |
