A study has found (not that I read papers but The Times today's date) that good looking people are more likely to have right wing tendencies.
The study shows that attractive people tend to do better in life and peoole interact with them differently. This can leave them a blind spot when it comes to others hardship, and in result in the good looking to back redistributive taxes and hold Tory views.
This backs research (apparently) that socialists are more likely to be weak, recognising that our stronger fitter ancestors realised there was nothing to gain from sharing.
It doesn't take much to kick off in here but...discuss?? |

Ahhh...but I’ll yammer politics in my own lounge at home
I’m a Lib Dem. I’ve never met a good looking Lib Dem (sorry guys!) Plenty of ‘nice, open face’ ones but goggling ‘hot Lib Dem’ is a spectacular fail.
It could very well be true - but then I can think of quite a few New Labourites that were pretty decent looking.
Seems all a little spurious to me! |

You should check your source of information. No surprise this ‘study’ was in the times newspaper. A conservative publication run by right wing Rupert Murdoch who has been subtly influencing the opinions of the general populous for decades upon decades.
Of course Tories would like to believe they’re more attractive. They’re not.
This article appears to combine two completely unrelated issues of attractiveness and political views. I call bullshit. |

I think the article runs a bit deeper than that, and I'm certainly not advocating any for or against perspective.
But it's an interesting insight into human behaviour and psyche....years ago did the strong and physically able see benefit in sharing and looking after the less able? Modern society has, I hope raised its intellect and values in order to be caring....but we've a very long way to go regardless of political persuasion? |

The strong and able have always looked after the less able when it comes to raising children. There's also evidence from the bones of hunter gatherer tribes that people with disabilities lived to a normal (for the times) age indicating that at times in history and pre history the less able were looked after. |

You're right, which I guess illustrates you can probably write a potentially persuasive article based on a few examples and print it for the masses to believe!
Let's hope we progress that attitude. |

It was American undertaken research I believe, so may not translate as readily into other countries.
I accept that people's blind spots and biases make them somewhat clueless - perhaps more so if right wing. |
