That must be it was a man in cords and a blue striped jumper.... He got out his fish car but on other side woman was fishing for looks with her fish nets hooking my eye... she looked like a hot catch...a hot wife  |

The same reason loads of other pagan symbols have been used by Christians.
There would have been a cross over period where members of the old religions and people who practiced the ancient traditions were probably using both the old and new symbols so they combined. There's also (as I'm sure you know) a widely held belief that Christians hijacked pagan symbols.
I suspect it was a combination of the two.
Not quite the same but the swastika is an example of how a symbol can be used differently. |

When you start something new, and want it to be a little vague for the government, you use the symbols familiar to people in a different way. They were pagan.
Those using it now are making a slightly different statement. But you know that.
