Look a sexual preference is not racist but I don't have much sympathy for people to hang such preferences like a sign outside a hotel.

It is not the same as saying "I prefer shaved heads." It might be to you but an act is racist if the victim perceives it as racist. It doesn't matter what your intentions are.

When we see profiles that read “No Blacks or Asians” many forget, people have the right to choose who they wish to date. However, many then go on to write “I’m not racist, it’s just my preference” When an entire group of people are ejected and the only thing they have is common is skin colour, then it’s catagorically a form of racism.

The problem isn’t the choice, it’s being less receptive to being called out as a bigot or racist for making such choice and people don’t like being labelled as a racist. This would mean they’re a horrible person, who supports Neo- fascist ideologies and believes in the writings of Jim Crow. Maybe some do but that would be another subject!

When we discuss matters like this, the state of rational is born and people begin comparing racial ‘preference’ with choice of physique, hair colour and often class and even gender. The latter is very deep subject that I don’t feel qualified enough to post.

There are many forms of racism, some extreme and others that are subtle and indirect but using preference as a reason is unfortunately not the only case. M

My understanding is English would be your nationality but Asian or Indian (not sure which is on forms) would still be your ethnicity ... for example i am Scottish and caucasian

While your comments might be valid in a job interview or similar scenario ... when it comes to physical attraction "racial preference" is also about a look so i think somewhere like fab is probably one of the few places it sort of is acceptable to lump in skin colour with preferences like beard or not/ height/ age/ gender/ body style etc ... at the end of the day it is all visual and people know themselves what they find visually stimulating

We all have our personal preferences of what we are attracted to of not. However I find those that feel the need to 'hang such a sign' in their profiles narrow minded and a reflection of personal issues.

Whatever happened to having a little class and decorum and simply exercising your preferences discreetly in choosing whom you correspond with ?

I have had some great conversations on here with people who sexually are not my type, now if my profile was full of preference bs, I would have lost the opportunity to make those connections.

But to be on a swingers site and build unnecessary barriers is just plain stupid, no wonder this site is gone downhill !

I feel it would be fine to say skin colour is a part of looks! Comparing the preference of race and beards or height etc is view often used when people don’t want to be labelled as racist.

Not true they are very different and legally if you say something someone finds racist - It is racists even if you didn't mean it that way.

Whatever your views on it that is where we are because society sees it as different. Thank god society is slowly progressing.

Simple fact is - people don't have to put "No asians" or whatever - just don't answer messages etc - that way you are not likely to inadvertently be taken as racist (when you're probably not anyway!).

Personally fed up of reading about racism, trans people etc. - the subjects seem to have taken over the bloody world - it's become boring.

Just get on with living your life in a decent and respectful manner and all will be okay

I won't go into what I received the other week but it was single handedly the nastiest message I have ever had on fab.

I won't use the words because they offend me but essentially it was saying stick to my own race and what a whore I was and that they wanted to harm me

I have my suspicions about it coming from a certain source but they deleted their profile before we could see... clearly a temporary one.

Racism is definitely alive and well on fab unfortunately but as long as you report them, then all's good.

As in life, there are a few bad eggs out there. It's up to us not to let them spoil it for us

I.e Asian community

I’d equate a race to height or baldness yes, I’m not attracted to shorter guys and I’m not attracted to some races either, does that mean I’m racist? Because I won’t meet who I’m not attracted to? I also won’t meet guys under a certain height either, or guys with hairy chests or guys who message faf, it really is as simple as personal preference, what about the guys that message me asking if I want their ‘big black cock’ they use race to entice but that makes it ok? To me that’s a double standard, at the end of the day if you dont agree with what someone has on their profile then block and move on, we all have more pressing problems than petty squabbles over someone else’s choices

Ok il give you an example.. if someone says on their profile "no Asians" and an Asian guy who has light skin.. dark hair.. messages you and says he's Italian? Or Puerto Rican.. You couldn't really tell of his race.. you would be ok to meet him or carry on messaging him because in you're mind he wouldn't be Asian".., race preference is silly.. as some races look very similar to each other.. think folks need to get out of their village a bit more lol

I don’t think it’s racist at all to say what your preferences are, just like saying ‘I prefer curvy girls, short girls, tall men, bald men, long haired men, aliens, tv’s etc’, if we see a profile that says they prefer a slim couple we know straight away there isn’t any point whatsoever in contacting them, the only reason this is such an issue is because the preference is skin colour, do ginger people get upset because people won’t meet them? Do bald men get annoyed that women (or men) meet them? I doubt there are many people that are black, Asian, green, white or multi coloured that actually get annoyed by these profiles, it’s everyone else that gets annoyed by it because they (like any of the above) know that everyone has a preference.

I disagree with you, intent is not a requirement. Have you heard of institutional racism? That is one example. Our behaviours and attitudes can be racist without there being intent.

End of the day if I went to go into a club and there was a sign saying no blacks I would think they were racist.

Even if you are not aware of it, to just dismiss an entire race as unattractive without even meeting them as individuals is strange. If that was me I would feel like I need to look into why I don't find a certain tone attractive as I aim to be as accepting as possible
