You should have sprayed garlic oil on yourself and Scarlet wouldn't have given you her lurgies.

fruit n veg , meat etc

The flu jab doesn’t prevent flu! I’ve had the jab and still caught flu....total waste of time! Drug manufacturers don’t want a cure for flu as they would lose money!

This is actually rubbish. I don't feed my family ready meals or processed food with the exception of some of this week where I've been too ill with the flu to make dinners from scratch.

you are aware, not all colds & flu are viral, some are bacterial

Surgeons and GP's advise all without a spleen to take antibiotics

they also protect against secondary infections

but whilst you are giving advise are you saying antibiotics will not help against; haemophilus influenzae

If you feel at risk from haemophilus influenzae then you can have the immunisation.

Keep a course of full-strength broad-spectrum antibiotics handy

Broad-spectrum antibiotics combat a wide range of bacteria. If you become ill with a high temperature or other signs of infection, you should start a course of full-strength, broad-spectrum antibiotics straightaway. This is in addition to taking regular low-dose penicillin (or similar). You should then obtain medical advice quickly.

Most feverish illnesses that you have will be common coughs and colds due to viral infections. These are not serious, and will be cleared by your immune system. The antibiotic will, in hindsight, usually not have been necessary. However, some serious infections start with symptoms similar to a cold. They can then develop quickly if you do not have a working spleen. So, it is best to play safe and take a course of full-strength broad-spectrum antibiotics as soon as any feverish illness starts and see a doctor promptly.

This is why anti biotics are becoming ineffectual.

How can one keep a course of antibiotics handy? Maybe I’m being naive but lots of GP’s including my own will not prescribe them.

If your going to get a cold or flu, there is nothing to prevent it apart from living as a hermit in a cave miles from anyone. I know I have had two bouts of it in 2 months and it ends up as sinitus.

But that says to take them if you feel ill. Your original post implied you took them all winter as a precautionary measure which is not following the guidance above.

read the link

you are advised to take antibiotics for life - penicillin 250mg, twice daily, but if you feel the start of a sore throat, chest infection, high temperature or similar you go on Amoxicillin right away

A new vaccination starts medical trials this year, that will immunize against all types of flu - in contrast to the product that we've had to date that does only 3 or 4.

The clinical trials may or may not succeed of course. If it works, it could end the need for us to predict which strains will be active in the coming flu season, as the jab will protect from them all.
