As far as I can tell, a gang of millionaires and billionaires like to sexually assault waitresses, and got called out on it.

Did you read/watch the footage of what happened? Strange how the family and children’s minister was called in to see the Chief Whip and explain why he was there if no one did anything wrong.

Is this why you prefer women being shy and timid?

So they don’t complain when men grope and sexually assault them?

If it wasn’t for her the story wouldn’t have come out and it will still be happening next year and the tear after. Like it has been happening for past 33 years.

She’s my hero.

Yes it does, one of the reasons why I won't do clubs anymore is because of the shocking behaviour of the "single" guys who turn up and expect instant unsafe play because they don't know any better (because they don't get educated on etiquette or try to play the Every one loves the Bad Boy card.)

This wasn't a hen night or strip bar.

I don't condone women groping men for the record but don't compare strip bars to charity fund raisers.

So being a hostess means they were supposed to get groped?

The whole point of the event was to get a large group of wealthy men together and give them what they need to relax and make them feel generous....that means lots of booze, an atmosphere of rampant testosterone and beautiful women floating around in cute skimpy dresses being friendly to them. I am amazed that everyone is now expressing such shock and disbelief that groping and sexual advances were rife in the room! I've been a hostess at events like this and you expect hands on your ass and d*unken leering...

Waitress serves food and drink

Hostess is there to welcome the guests

It's my understanding that their predominant "official" duties were serving drinks and canapes, which sounds an awful lot like waitresses to me. But, as ever with internet differences of opinion, semantics and pedantry are far far more important than the issue at hand.

It’s definitely distasteful and anachronistic, and also brings up questions of power imbalance. I do wonder what the other hostesses think, though, rather than the undercover reporter? Were they fully aware of what they were being employed to do, and did this with full consent? If so, then there is an argument that it is their choice. The story would have more weight (sorry I didn’t read it so may have been covered in there) if they had complained.

there have been interviews with a couple who attended in previous years, one never worked for the agency again, and the other refused any jobs at that hotel, and a few more today.....its easy enough to say they should have complained but i think its important to bear in mind these women were hired though agencies that, had they complained, probably wouldnt give them anymore work...they are not on high wages, most are young, and felt very intimidated. If you are relying on agency hours, never knowing when you'l get work, , its easier said than done to decide to be the one to stick your head above the parapet and risk not being able to pay their rent the next week. Dont think i'd have done that at 20..

I think the fact that they had to sign a non disclosure agreement has something to do with the others not coming forward.

No non disclosure agreement can stop a victim of any crime to come forward. As little as Grabbing somebody’s hand is assault.

Oh definitely agree, and this is the power issue of course. Non-disclosure agreements aren’t valid if sexual assault or other crimes take place (as someone else said). The fact that it was done in the name of charity is appalling.

They were made to sign non-disclosure agreements, they quite literally weren't allowed to complain.

I had a discussion about this with a colleague this morning, in fact. He made a point that I've already heard a lot, that women sleep their way to the top "all the time" and they "probably knew what they were in for." My argument is that there were 150 hostesses, if half of them-in fact even if a hundred of them-went there planning on wanking off a few millionaires for tips, that still leaves 50 naive young girls being sexually assaulted.

People keep saying that the women were naive. Does that mean we should assume that anywhere there is a group of men we should expect to be groped or propositioned for sex?

Or just around rich men?

And you don’t grope the cheerleaders boys! They are just there to be seen or find husbands, sugar daddies etc.. and most are just there to make a living.
