Does anyone know what the PURPOSE of the 130 female hostesses attending the charity event at The Presidents Club last week? They were told to wear short black dresses, matching underwear and high heels. There's a lot of hype in the news what went down. |

It's a Financial Times investigation report of the President's Club event. Women paid £15 an hour in central London, hands up their skirts included. Government minister in attendance.
Despite all of the hurt and damage that the me-too campaign has highlighted, it's sickening that corporate bosses etc still feel this type of behavior is acceptable. |

"If I was going to be a hostess at an all male event I would know exactly what that meant. Why are these women so naive? "
They wouldn't be anywhere near as old as you and possibly from modelling agencies.

They were paid a bare bones £15 an hour at the Dorchester hotel - possibly unaware it was all male. Superficially it was charity fundraising, so some young females would be excused for assuming it was a decent outfit to work at.

Because a lot of women are naive. If I was offered £15 an hour I wouldn't begin to imagine that being bait for charity donations was included in the job description. If they offered £150 an hour I would wonder what they wanted of me. |

I think the problem seems to be a difference between what the men where expecting and what some of the women where expecting. A women who chooses to work in a strip club knows the deal and also has a fair degree of protection around her... It does appear some of the women did not know the environment they where going into. |

This behaviour is not just alive at The Dorchester. Women are being subjected to harrassment and sexism still in the workplace in 2018! |

They were provided by an agency which hires good looking young women out as hostesses. It's been going on for 35 years and many were there several years in a row. Even the under cover reporters knew exactly what to expect, that's why they went!
However most of the women were apparently wearing the uniform and pouring drinks... like you would expect, there was a 3 hostess minimum at tables so nobody was alone, and though most won't give interviews due to it being a condition of employment in the agency, those that have, gave a very much tamer version than the newspaper...
More 'outrage' for the media world. This time costing charity recipients lots of money. |

"Unfortunately sex sells"
It may do but these were innocent women not being employed as sex workers. They were paid little above or around London living wage levels to support incredibly wealthy pigs. These men employ thousands of women between them and it's sickening that their attitude towards women is so abysmal. I wonder if many of them are not fit and proper holders of directorship positions, of enormous responsibility. |

The hostesses came from an agency, they knew the job. The victims are those who charity recipients who the financial Times have taken the money away from. |

Really?! Those charities have assessed the loss to them and decided not to be associated with the organisation that arranged the evening. As they say, there is no such thing as bad publicity and so their involvement in all this and making the stand they did can only help their profile and will no doubt endear them to the legions of people who were appalled by the behaviour at the event.
As for those claiming the women were being naive, I suppose you also think that women wearing short skirts and high are asking for it when they get r*ped.noyive only men saying they knew what they were in for.
What happened at that event was inappropriate and wrong and they were right to expose it. It hung gives those men the right to manhandle women doing their job. The whole evening was archaic. |

It is strange how when newspaper reporters do a shock horror piece on swingers clubs, everyone says exaggeration and lies. But when it's a big business function at the Dorchester then it's all true and terrible behaviour.
The actual hostesses are not supposed to give interviews, they all had non disclosure agreements. 2 however have spoken on interview and given a much different perspective than what the under cover reporter claims.
Last year it wouldn't have made a story in the daily mail, this year it's discussed in parliament. |

You know it was filmed, right?
And the swinging stories are refuted on here because a lot of us go to them and have knowledge of them.
Wether or not it happened as they said it did this thread alone is enough to show that mindset of some men is appalling. |

"Wether or not it happened as they said it did this thread alone is enough to show that mindset of some men is appalling. "
I tend towards the middle ground, several men and women present say it wasn't exactly as outrageous as claimed by the reporter. And I have known many occasions where I personally, or through trusted sources have evidence that reporters exaggerate to get published.
I don't like the sort of event this was, but have been to some, they are usually considerably more tame than 'girls nights out'
The faux outrage going on is the problem, next January 150 women in the entertainment industry won't have a nights work, charities will go without donations, and what's worse is I have been on the motorway listening to the shock horror story on the radio all day.

Why would you ask them to sign a non disclosure agreement if they were just there to be a waitress?
The fact that they had to agree to non disclosure speaks volumes for me. It tells me that the organisers knew full well that these young women would be at risk of being sexually harassed and maybe assaulted and they were trying to make sure that the truth didn't come out.
As for the ladies being naive? Yes I think many of them probably were. Lets not forget that many of them are pretty young. University students in their late teens and early 20's trying to support themselves while studying.
Don't blame the girls, they are victims of rich and powerful men who think they can do anything.
Many people on fab have children of a similar age.

They were not employed as waitresses, they were hostesses. Also the non disclosure agreements were between them and the agency that employs them as hostesses, rather than specific to this event.
Being brutally honest, yes money would cause some of them to 'perform' for bigger tips.
As for the what if it was your kids comment. My son flipped burgers and did lots of hours bar work at Uni. Got minimum wage if he was lucky. My daughter used her cleavage to sell shots at a night club again for minimum wage but the tips she got meant she only needed to work 1 night a week.
Sex sells, sex earns. But only for some, and seldom for men.

I am her dad, but I am not so stupid that I never suspected she may have undone an extra button or exaggerated her movements to get her skirt to ride a little higher when the tips were big enough.
She is a very intelligent woman, the grey area was who was being sexually exploited, the stupid men who paid over the odds for a shot they didn't really want, and gave a big tip as well, or the young woman pouring drinks for £200 + tax free plus minimum wage one night a week?

Exactly so. And to the guys above thinking women accept £15 an hour to be mauled , because sex sells
Stop dolly day dreaming. Sex does sell and if these “gentlemen” wanted to buy in ladies for this kind of activity, they should have paid the proper rate with consenting women. |

So if groping a woman without her permission is sexual assault and it’s on film are these men going to be prosecuted? Note some of the influential ones left immediately they saw it, probably because they knew it was wrong and did not want to vindicated. |

This is a culture problem.
On any Saturday night out in any city in the uk when a stag or hen night gets to its later stages and the drink is flowing this will happen.
Only in this case the elites from the public school system think that any one is fair game who is not of their ilk. Just wondering if the girls of the public schools type have all ladies nights with skimpy clad men as servers. That would be just as bad. |

What do you mean, 'if'?
Prosecutions will depend on if any women report matters to the police.
And if some people, left good for them? Not sure what that has to do with anything. Other than maybe if they are so influential they could have tried to calm things down. |

Would you think that if your 18 year old at uni say, took a waitressing job for £15 an hour and was groped?
However, if the rate was £150 an hour even the most naive would expect to be serving more than canapés. |

To me dressing the hostesses like that in a men only event, was asking for trouble. As we all know from some posts on here, men can think they are entitled to do what they like. I guess that the men invited had a bit of spare cash, so that can lead to an air of they can get away with what they want.
Not that I am condoning what happened at all, am I all for admiring a woman in nice clothes but there are lines that should not be crossed. |

I agree that there needs to be properly controlled investigation in to these things but do you think it's ok for these things to continue because its journalists and film stars who bring them to people's attention?

On tv yesterday a woman reporter supposedly had a copy of the letter/ invitation to the event and she read out a section that reminded the men not to touch or grope the women. (I can't remember the exact words used.) |

"Does anyone know what the PURPOSE of the 130 female hostesses attending the charity event at The Presidents Club last week? They were told to wear short black dresses, matching underwear and high heels. There's a lot of hype in the news what went down.
They obviously agreed to it by going and wearing those things. I don't know if they agreed to groping though
"
The strange thing about the contract, if what has been reported is true, is that while I can understand the ‘wear a black dress’ bit as a “dress code” for a formal event, surely alarm bells would start ringing when told to wear “matching underwear” .. how the hell should that even matter unless anyone was going to see it!
All very odd! The company that hired the hostesses can’t plead ignorance in this! |

I think it's a shame that people think that requesting a woman wears a certain type of clothing implies that strange men touching her body is a natural result.

Of course...but is bad behaviour more likely to occur at a single sex event? |

How did you conclude that from what I said?
I was merely stating that it seemed an odd request from the company who supplied the hostesses. Maybe THEY (the company) knew what might result (I don’t know, I’m speculating!) but I was in no way condoning or accepting the behaviour! |

100%
Look at hen dos and stag dos..
a men only event is bit like a stag do with cheerleads provided for them.
But I’ll mention this for those who like to get the wrong end of stick that they weren’t there to be groped..
But to be like models, find rich boyfriends, husbands, sugar daddies etc.. and most were there to make a living. |

I know, I was agreeing with you that if the agency (or indeed anyone) thought that asking them to wear matching underwear implied anything other than a strict dress code its a shame.
However in day to day life women are frequently told "what did you expect if you go out dressed like that". |

Why is it that people can only empathise by imagining these women are their own daughters/sisters/etc?
They’re people, with value in their own right. No person should be a piece of pretty meat to be pawed and ogled for £15 per hour. |

Possibly both lol...fantastic film by the way...set in the Troubles in Ireland in the 80s...watch it rather than search for the précis...then come back and tell me off lol |

There’s definitely some young ladies (and guys, for that matter!) drawn to power and wealth and on the lookout to exploit such occasions to find sugar daddies etc.
Anyone denying that surely had their heads in the sand.
But the issue here is around consent isn’t it? Is it right to assume that the hostesses were ‘game’ to be touched etc? Obviously not being there I don’t know if non-consensual groping occurred or not, but the implication is that it did. |

Because Financial Times decided to get a story out of it.. mind you they didn’t do that for last 33 years.
Still groping and this behaviour was going on at these parties.. which was wrong but no body said anything.
It also goes on at clubs.. but FT didn’t go to The Box in soho
Sales must be really low this quarter |

Agree. I wonder if it's true- if they really did 'remind' them then they are admitting they knew it went on and should surely have done more to stop it. |

It is a bit sad that so many think that just because they are good looking, and in their 20's Women don't have a brain even if they are refered to as university students.
Women are capable of being intelligent, there probably wasn't a naive person in the building.
Some would be looking to get in and out with £50 for a nights work, others may have been looking for a good night with free drinks and maybe some NSA sex, others may possibly have been looking to sell sex or flirtation.
But they all chose with intelligence as surprisingly even good looking women can be. |

This is what I agree with.
Charities have lost millions. The organisers of the events and all involved must have known what was going on.
This needs to be looked into with full investivation and prevented from happening again. Individuals who were complicit in this need to be stopped. |

The absolute losers here we the recipients of the charity, in this case GOSH.
When someone dobs a fiver into a collection tin no one thinks twice whether or not the someone is a lecherous old twat.
GOSH should have kept the cash and stuck two fingers up at the over privileged Presidents Society members; clearly need to learn how to behave like gentlemen. Perhaps they are the same bell ends who try to join in uninvited at clubs?
