Really dull... apologies in advance but there is a wealth of knowledge here so I’m gonna ask the geeks amongst you...

I’m looking for some sort of software to make / develop a database of people I invite to stuff. I use a really basic excel spreadsheet approach at the moment but there’s got to be a better way to maintain a client database. I need it to be installed rather than web based.

Does anyone have any suggestions or experience of such a thing?

Thank you... sorry it’s not more exciting!

I was afraid you were gonna say that... I have to go and teach myself how to build one all over again. We’ve used it in the past... alas we’re still on version 2010... I’d really like an assistant for this sort of tedium!

Yup... it’s my last resort really... I have the dummies book on my desk but is a bit of a depressing prospect.

I’d much rather make them buy a fancy new bit of kit that looks pretty and is idiot proof!

Give OpenOffice a look. It has wizards to help with database creation - and it's free. The database portion of the software suite is called Base.

You can get CRM software at zero cost that operate a on laptops and mobiles etc and provides cloud storage and access from anywhere.

It may be more complex than you need But try salesforce or zoho...or just Google CRM software.

Oh that’s a good shout, I know someone at Salesforce. My issue (well not mine but the company) is that highly confidential client info will not be allowed to be cloud related. They’re still in the 1980’s somewhere. I’m still on Microsoft’s 2010 version!

I’ll have a look all the same... you never know!
