Is this a bit dodge?

Got a car for sale on there at the moment and with 2 days to go i got a bus but the person bidding has not asked to come see it or any questions about it.

I can't find the bidder's profile on the app so can't view their feedback etc.

Are they gonna steal my car?!

Have you given them your address for any viewing?

EBay is as safe as autotrader and all the other sites that sell cars

One of the guys that works for us had his car on Ebay, started getting calls after a few days saying which Ad was the real one?

Turns out someone had copied his Ad then put it on at a lower price just to steal the deposit

No because they haven't contacted me. Just bid on the car and I can't find their profile to message them.

I'd be suspicious and also look up car buying scams on eBay and from private sales generally.

I've no experience but think I may have seen reports of buyers messing people about.

Good luck!

I sold my old car on eBay... the scrappies wanted me to pay them and I thought fuck that... got £240 for it!

I did make my brother come round when they collected. I sold another via Gumtree but I dumped it at my brother’s house and he dealt with it for me. I’m glad I did that cause the bloke came but didn’t bring enough cash and thought I’d be an easy target. Unlucky... he left a deposit and came back the next day with the asking price.

Personally I’d rope someone in to be there with you.

I'd use Gumtree as it's totally free to advertise it and sell it at the price you want...which is far better then putting it to auction and not knowing what you will get. And don't forget ebay charge you 10% of the final sale price on auctions..

You can set a reserve price, and I will ALWAYS use eBay and PayPal as a secure way of being paid too.

No fucking about haggling after the auction ends... you wouldn't do it at a live one, so don't try and do it online.

As for the bidder bit baking contact... nothing suspect there, maybe they know they want the motor and are happy to pay their final bid.. then make contact to arrange collection.

I have had this hundreds of times... and will always trust a secure site that has people's details on file.

Steer clear of gum tree. Unless you have some friends that can be around when people come to view.. that site is full of idiots.

I've sold a few cars on there over the years and had no issue whatsoever but as someone else mentioned it might be best to have someone else with you just in case, better safe than sorry. Good luck with it

If you sell a car on eBay it works out cheaper to do it as a classified advert, about £15 for 30 days. If you use auction format they take about 10% of final value so you sell your car for 1k and then get stung for £100 final value fee

I don't sell cars on ebay anymore.

Too many shysters

Too many messers

Too many dreamers

About 3 years ago I 'sold' an Escort RS turbo to a bloke who won it on ebay. Came down from Lancaster. Then tried to chip me.

My OH asked later why she'd seen me chasing him down the close with a wheelbrace....... needless to say he didnt take it away with him...

Then I sold my old e36 M3 convertible cheap at £3750. The bloke who won it only lived 3 miles away. He asked if he could view it before bidding. Ok I said, but he never turned up.

So when he did win he came to collect it 3 days later & started picking it to pieces..."there's a scratch here"....."theres a dent there"......ALL which were in the selling description.

He thought he'd 'do me a favour and take it away for £2500

His thoughts were badly wrong

I could go on for another dozen I 'sold' but now I sell them on facebook.

Easier, less hassle & seemingly more footfall.

I just don't bother with eBay for selling cars anymore

final selling fee for a car on ebay is £20 flat fee not 10% of the final selling price
