"There’s no escape now I’ve been entered into a race FFS.
Youll be fine, plenty of time to prepare and doing so well so far. A goal to aim for is always helpful (at least i think so) "
I was always told that any hole is a goal...umm...maybe that wasn’t on this thread though... |

A race is the reward for all the training that you are doing, it's the fun part of the whole thing
And you earn the right to have that fun and enjoyment by doing the hard miles now, in the cold and the dark, when you're tired and achey and really don't feel like it.
It's like investing in your own future pleasure. Sort of the same as putting the effort into writing a good fab profile
But less sweaty...... |

" ive had to stop
What have you done?
Shin splints
Ouch one of the guys at work that runs a lot, as in 250 miles in one go!! He told me to run on my toes as this acts as a shock absorber than landing flat footed and your legs taking all the shock....i don't know if thats what causes shin splits....if not its a bit of useless information for you lol"
Not sure about the specific impact on shin splints, but running on your toes rather than landing on your heels is regarded as the better way to run, to reduce your chance of injury.
Hand in hand with that, a faster stride frequency with shorter strides also reduces the stress on joints.
Not easy to change your natural running style, but for anyone who is struggling with injury, it's worth considering

Perhaps not toes, but on the forefeet, leaning forwards slightly. But yes don’t change your natural running style until you have some experience of running more miles . |

Went for another run last night, wasnt going to bother as it was raining when I looked out the window, but I saw a guy running with shorts and a t-shirt on,and wearing a rucksack that looked like it had bricks in it,so I thought 'fuck it' I'm on it |

Had a bad week this week
Been working away. Worked 80 hours in 4 days and I’m a wee bit knackered. Plus I’m fitting a kitchen this weekend So no running for me.
But I’ll be pounding the treadmill (and that’s not a euphemism!) on Monday again. |

I did a new week’s run last night, last week was one and a half minutes run, three minutes run then the same again.
This week the short run was three minutes and the long run was five minutes
I did the first lot and the second short run but had to stop halfway through the last five minutes run. Rest today and I’ll have another crack at it tomorrow |

Week 2 run 3....i decided to run at the park, its flat but concrete paths, my usual run is on a bridle way which is ups and downs but mainly down till a big hike up at the end for the cool down.....now i found today harder and my shin muscles really hurt, it was a hard slog but afterwards as i was walking to my car i felt i could've run again but i didn't. Next run on wed.
I was wondering how everyone doing? Whats everyones pain? Breathing or legs?
I thought mine would be breathing but its my legs |

Good to have a change of scenery, but the hard surface is likrly yo effect your legs more, although down brifle ways possibly more chance of falling over tree roots lol.
Mine barriers breathing, maybe im not breathing properly when im jogging but i do try to focus on it. Legs arent so bad, although im doing spinning everyday along side it so my legs are getting used to it now |

Well done, stick at it!
My problem seems to be leg muscles, although maybe it’s also “this hurts, if I stop it would be fine”. Sometimes my brain should just shut the fuck up |

Thankfully the bridleways are clear but it is muddier....I'll stick with the bridleways and once i can run 5k without stopping i may look into different places to run.
I've no idea about breathing, i know i breath in and out through my mouth and I'm not supposed to! Hopefully one of ghe coaches will give some advice |

No running today as we jogged to the badminton centre and back only 1 mile either way. As different leg muscles were used last night, I'm a bit achy today. And I let her win |

I’m still on week 2. My stupid eardrum decided to burst and so fast waddling isn’t an activity I want to do.

"Looking forwards to mascot costume ideas lol
I'm thinking Cock(erel) - or just your iconic nakedness!"
My iconic nakedness. Brilliant. Was chatting running to a hottie on the train and a mate at a beer festival last night. Now in addition the bottom of my left foot hurts. Just put me down now ffs |

I unintentionally have had 3 rest days, I've been out tonight, I'm with the club on Sunday, as you are meant to rest I'm guessing I shouldn't run sat or sun, so looks like only 2 runs for me this week |

Returning from the local supermarket tonight I ad to cross the road and there was a car coming..... I switched on to Usain Bolt mode, weighed down by two mini bottles of wine and some cheese, I must have covered 5 yards in five seconds, 2 hours later I am still celebrating with Usain Bolt style poses (where's the Usain Bolt emoji!) |

Week 3 run 2 completed this morning
But my app wanted to start charging me to start week 3 so the last two runs I have repeated week 2's, not ideal, but I can see that my times are better than when I ran before.
I know people have mentioned free apps on here on previous threads, can someone please recommend some which won't try and charge me to use it!
Thank you x |

We’re at the same stage. The NHS podcast is free and apparently very good. |

Yes. I expect they know talent when they see it.
(Do you get that thing where you’re running, and there’s a stick or something up ahead, and the extra effort to jump over the stick is almost too much to comprehend?!) |

"My second run of the week and another fail, looks like I'll have to repeat this week again. I'll keep trying it until I get there because I'm already doing more than last week."
No shame at all in repeating a week if you are struggling a bit, will serve you better in the long run than struggling on at a level you're perhaos not quite ready for. You're progressing which is the important thing. |

"Week 2 Run 1 later this morning...having left a week after the flu fevers subsided...we’ll see..."
30 mins done...1 min walk, then 1 minute run, then 1W,2R times 4, then 2 mins walk in the middle and 2R,1W times 4, then 1R,1W.
I was puffing on the runs and breathing through the mouth, in 2 strides out 2 strides. So quite hard work. But done...and relax those moobs... |

Good plan. Just a few more repetitions. Don't let it break you! |

Yes, and on Friday night my long sleeve t shirt wasn’t dry so I ran in short sleeves

Yes we are going to come back to parkrun as a parallel thread soon, but would be good for anyone who’s interested to go and investigate it. You need to register and print off bar codes, but other than that it is a very inclusive community...and it is FREE... |

Signed up to park run yesterday will start looking out for local ones. Run 3 week 3 today in the rain not sure if it makes me mad or hard-core. One thing for sure is I looked like a very soggy toddler chasing a pug! |
