Depends what you call a long period? I took a 6 month break a couple of years ago. Didn't like it. Although I will say I was more productive generally.

yes OP I can go months and months. I don't just have sex for the hell of it with people I am not 100% attracted too so it's often less than more for me but sex should be enjoyable not just a past time when you're bored. Rather have a wank than meet many if I'm honest. Don't worry about it.
