Keep it to yourself, absolutely no sharing allowed.

Die quietly, no moaning.

Find a slave to make you drinks, mop your brow, pass you painkillers.

Keep repeating.......it won't last forever.....there's always someone worse off than you................

I know, no help at all. I don't envy you. Hope you get better

Plenty of bed rest/sleep, wrapped up warm with extra blanket or duvet on. Maybe have a hot water bottle too. Lemsips and light meals like soup/cuppa soup. Drink plenty of fluids or orange juice for Vitamin C boost.

This is incorrect I had the flu and missed 2 days off work and was back in

And I know I had the flu because I was swabbed by my gp and they came back flu positive

You'll know you've got flu when you can't post on here anymore and don't move from your bed other than to go to the toilet. Take paracetamol or stronger if you have it. The only thing I ate for four days was Cocoldamol. Importantly...Make sure you stay hydrated! If you start coughing up blood or get severe chest pains... get yourself to the doctor.

Twat is just recovering from a bout of nasty flu. My experiences are:

It lasted about 4 days, during which time I really couldn’t do much at all for most of the time - fevers, gastrointestinal distress, sinus issues, no appetite, bad headaches, severe sleep disturbance.

The after effects (day 3 of those so far) have been horrible sinusitis including not being able to clear the mucus so being “snotsick”, further diarrhoea and occasional vomiting, but fewer and less intense fevers, return of appetite and fewer headaches.

How I have been coping? Fluids, especially something sugary like full fat or old fashioned lucozade, paracetamol-based products like Sudafed or lemsip (but be careful of adding to your gastrointestinal issues if you have them), and complete isolation during the full-on phase.

I wouldn’t wish this flu on anyone - according to some friends in the drugs business, it’s one of the worst for years.

Going to try to do a bit of work from home today, but have to take it easy. The physical after effects can last up to 2 weeks.

Sweat it out and keep telling yourself “these times will pass”.

I feel your pain...love and hugs,

Twat

I'd have to agree. The one time I've had proper flu, I picked up my phone to look at Facebook but it felt too heavy and actually focusing my eyes was way too much effort.

1000mg Vit C 3 times a day. Works wonders and will feel better in a few days. Pharmacist told me years ago and has always worked for me.

Rest and isolation, where possible.

Over the counter decongestants and pain killers as needed. Menthol crystals dissolved in hot water and steam, if needed.

Extensive bed rest

Can only assume the pharmacist must have sold you them!

The daily recommend dosage of vitamin C is only around 90mg, the rest is just p***ed out and there's no evidence of it helping with the symptoms of cold either, in excess it actually can cause diarrhea, headaches, heartburn among other problems.

I have had real flu three times in my life and it is totally debilitating.

If you are really ill, dial 111 for advice, not a bunch of strangers on the Internet.

Sheffield

Just back on my feet following flu, started it on the 4th properly bad 5th and for the next 6 days absolutely laid me out, legs like jelly, every bone aches,my eyes aches everything aches, I have lost 12 lb,dehydration, headaches, sickness, absolutely no appetite and nauseous if I did attempt to eat, and bronchial pneumonia as well for which I almost had to beg the GP to prescribe antibiotics for “I’m not asking for antibiotics for the flu you fuckwit” I can’t fucking breathe cos my bronchial tubes are closed up and even ventolin is struggling to open them.

Trust me if you get a chance to have the flu jab take it, you really do not want what I have just had for 8 or 9 days, it’s been horrible..... oh and as a self employed contractor I lost my contract as well for not being in work

According to a GP that was being interviewed on the news the flu jab protects only 4-6 out of ten of all people meaning that at least 4 out of ten get no protection at all.

Given that most people will go through the winter without catching it (i've only had it once in my entire life) i find this pressuring of our citizens to take mass innoculation unacceptable particularly given the proven and unpleasant side effects that some have experienced.

There are 2 or 3 issues raised here. Firstly, no vaccination is 100% effective, but it helps “herd immunity” and the prevention of an epidemic. Secondly, this particular strain (mainly H3N2 which originated in the Australian winter) wasn’t included in the current vaccine because it appeared too late for inclusion. Thirdly, there is always a small number of people that experience side effects to any vaccination.

It’s about weighing the risks and benefits for you individually but also for the population as whole (if you are a public health official anyway).

I didn’t have the flu jab because I’m not in a high risk group...but it almost certainly wouldn’t have protected me this year. Having had flu (and it’s bad, believe me) I am considering it for next year.

Lol. Coughing so hard dropped a bottle then tripped over it fell down the stairs landed on my shoulder grabbed the bottle and raised it to my mouth quickly so as to not spill too much and smashed it into my teeth. But hey at least I didn’t spill too much x

Hull but travel regularly

Day 5 for me, still in bed but woke up feeling miles better than yesterday. Antibiotics for the chest infection, vit c, echinacea, Vicks, two inhalers, solpadine, nothing is helping the aching, made much worse by pulling muscles through strained coughing.

If anyone has seen the film contact my breathing and rattling/wheezing chest sounds like the signal coming though. Maybe it’s aliens sending a signal though a flu epidemic
