We all know this arena can be a savage place. With the whole is there or isn't there a clique?. If there is am I in it? White knights jumping to a the defence of any female with a pulse.. or looking to shoot down competition in a bid to look funny..
With that comes the time where you can feel.savaged upon or left to be fed upon by the pack of wolves hi jacking threads etc. And of course there is the sarcasm that some just can't resist when it would sometime be better to move along without comment...
So it got me thinking do you need to be good at not only receiving and ignoring sarcasm but also giving it to be able to survive forum life?

I think you just have to find the rhythm of what works for you. And be comfortable with your own choices. Whether you mean to or not, you’re likely to upset someone, like in life. Just know your intentions and be gentle with others, and open to listening/talking when you or they get it wrong. Everyone has different intent, and different approaches to the world and truly understanding others is fraught with danger. Getting it wrong is inevitable.
Half the time I don’t understand my own wants and needs and desires, so getting it right with others...well!
People are complex. I just want some peace from my heart and head. ![](/icons/s/2/heart.gif) |

Sometimes I find sarcasm an irresistible response but most of the time I try to resist. I find self-deprecation a more useful approach and when the mood takes me authenticity |

I tend to agree with you and most have a rhythm.. but there are times when other upset that by their own agendas which could leave one feeling very shot down and isolated... benching able to be thick skinned enough to let it go over your head. |

But whose agenda is more important? Yours? Theirs? There’ll be inevitable clashes between people who aren’t even attempting to hurt one another, based on their approaches/intent. Which one’s feelings get to be more important? |

Sometimes the tone in my posts will change, sometimes I decide to go for funny and see if it works or I go for super over the top confident stuff, most of the time I’m just plain and boring lol.

I think there should be more consciousness towards for example the OP of a thread... they started it for whatever reason. I've done it so not claiming to be whiter than white... but sometime other jobs.it when they could set their own thread up...
There are some huge personalities or egos here that don't actually care to much for their actions... just an obsovation late on a saturday... God I need to get laid.. ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

"Just use the "I'm much more cleverer than you" emoji. It makes you look really clever. "
I never use that one. And I'm like totally clever. And if I didn't know to use it then does that mean people don't know I'm being sarcastic when I am? Shit. |

In response to the original op, there are some people (not only on here, but in real life as well) that are more susceptible to sarcastic comments than others. Some take it with a pinch of salt, have a laugh about it, take it in their stride and come back with something else that will see you go flying out of the park

Some people will take a comment one way and others will take the same comment totally differently. Stuff can come across as sarky when it's not intended and visa versa.
I don't think there's a clique, there's popular formulites though.
I would say if making a thread be prepared for all kinds of replies, some may be not nice and others nice.

Isn’t that true if all online debates though? Try to stick to the point, don’t use ad hominem arguments (play the ball not the man), try to add value, don’t get distracted by irrelevance...in fact, it’s probably a lesson in debating in real life too.
We don’t mind the amusing sarcastic comments, it’s the ones that make it personal and nasty that are worrying - mainly for the people making those comments. Roald Dahl said in an interview once that kindness was the only thing worth worrying about, because everything else stems from that. |

No, you don't need to excel at giving sarcasm - it's a poor way to express what you feel and believe imo. I prefer people who are confident enough to share themselves and their thoughts without destructive attacks upon others and who can communicate clearly and with empathy. |

Being sarcastic occasionally doesn't mean you lack empathy. Neither is it always attacking or destructive. Context is everything. |

Agree, some manage to do it in a cheeky way, however there are people who constantly use it in a manner thats meant to belittle others on the forums.
That stands out and can make some nasty reading.
Just my opinion
