They were forced to under the Irish quote system, effectively you can have non-irish players up to a certain time, but if they then cant qualify to play for Ireland on residency the clubs are forced to relieve that player as it potentially blocks the route for an irish youngster coming in, obviously, Ulsters way around it is short term contracts for highly skilled international players

Well Scarlets were bloody amazing this weekend especially considering their first choice back 3 were all out injured! The Pivac/Jones combo has to be the Wales port of call when it comes to replacing Gatland & The Fraud! Especially given the Welsh talent there! Hopefully Cubby gets his call up!

A mention to Rhys Webb too who was excellent, his impending exile from the national side is baffling!

Otherwise, I think Ulsters result was a greag result for them, especially given their Pro14 form

Haskell will be ready to play the first match, he showed “immediate remorse” so, being an England international they’ll start him at 6 weeks (rather than the 10 it should be) & cut it by half

the great thing about all of the pools this year is that none of the 3rd place teams in any of them is actually not out of qualifying... which means they are all going to probably put out full xv's (the three on saturday will, the two on sunday may end up having a few "scratches" in them)

if going into the final round of pool games decided is that Leinster will get a home quarter final and the other 7 spots are all up for grabs between 14 teams.... we are going to see some super rugby next weekend!

Its going to make for some spectacular viewing & more than a few upsets, great thing is its home nations sides battling itnout too, so we have the mix of players playing for Champions Cup berths but also sizing up their international opponents!

agree... clermont vs ospreys and Scarlets vs Toulon could be two epics....

the interesting group for me is leinster's.... i wonder if the IRFU will lean on leinster to not play any potential Irish 6N players... and the Scots do the same with Glasgow and their 6N players as their fates are already sealed......

4 weeks is nothing !

He deserves no credit for his actions after the fact.

it’s worrying there doesn’t appear to be any consistency in the punishments being handed out. Sekope Kupo received a 3 week ban for his dangerous play red card back in November

if you want to know bans that are shocking, mattieu basteraud only getting 3 weeks for a gay slur aimed at an oppo player doesn't go far enough!!!

anyway, leinster getting the win in montpellier is fantastic... and exeter blowing it against glasgow means neither will qualify,

we could have a final 8 with no english representation.... bt sport are probably crying as we speak... lol

Hoggie scoring for Warriors inside first minute after returning from 3 months injury - class

Marler only got 2 games out and £20k fine for “gypsy boy”.

Begs the question, why bother with the process when the punishments are so lenient .

Definately not sending the right message back to the players/management ..

if it turns into a game of "scarlets back lines" vs "glasgows back line"..... i would still probably take the warriors...

i think this game is won up front..... if the scottish front 3 can just about cope... they win.... but that is where the welsh will absolutely target them!

I'll be supporting our boys today. It's going to be a tough match , I'm not expecting too much from Wales. We are troubled with injury . North missing is a big blow.

That's the only reason some pundits said Scotland were favourites. Shows the depth of the Welsh team even with the injuries they have.

Last try shouldn't have been because of last forward pass.

Final forward try didnt make any difference .

Only disappointing aspect of that is the way the ref didn’t use the tmo correctly.

But hey ho - bad day at office - move on.

I wouldn’t say wales have strength in depth . They simply faced a scotland team that were not firing correctly

the HIA is not a player or a referees call... it is the match doctor.....

unless the tmo can say something in th refs ear, which he can't, then there is really nothing the ref can do....

anyway, 3 at home on the spin.... the march to the decided at HQ....

No, they'd have to replace the match day doctor for player safety. Sanction should be against their management or federation. Or we'll end up back in another blood gate scenario.

But it’s happening more and more these days - wales did something similar (dubious ) against Georgia in the Autumn internationals?

Maybe not as blatant as blood gate, but still not good for integrity of game if teams are seen to be gaining an advantage my misrepresenting the actual truth

Definately not good sportsmanship or in the spirit of the game
