When I want to chat to someone a bit more I usually use kik, however sometimes I use Whatsapp.
I always forget though about the link between that and facebook - if you look at suggested friends, it picks up your whatsapp contacts and so if I want to remain fairly anonymous until I meet, they may be able to find me on FB.
Is there a way of unlinking the 2 - from what I've read I missed my chance by accepting something initially when setting up whatsapp but surely there must be a way round it??
TIA |

Maybe even just use kik and save the complication |

Yep that would be the easiest thing to do - but sometimes I forget (wine has that affect on me). |

Just make sure the Facebook app on your phone isn’t allowed to see your on-phone contacts list and don’t let Facebook save your phone number either or people can find you through that! |

"I havnt given facebook my phone number. Not sure why it would need it anyway. Don't know if that makes a difference? "
It doesn't, app automatically recognises one another. |

Or you could just look up their number and find out all kinds of info, linkedin profiles, address, social media pages...
Failing the address part you can fairly easily get someones rough location off their pictures
Like my friend who didnt believe me it was possible. 20 minutes later i told her:
Full address, what her house looked like, where he son played and went to school, where her mum abd brother lived and where she shops |

It can still aggregate Facebook and WhatsApp info into.your Facebook pages unless you disable it...
Simple solution.... I closed WhatsApp account as soon as facebook bought it! |

I have been told that even if you delete a Facebook account it is never actually removed from their servers and it's possible to set up a new account using old info at which point the old account info is fully reactivated....I've never had Facebook so can't confirm that.
But if you want private encrypted end to end messaging then try taking a look at Signal...
Or use Fb/WhatsApp and risk every piece of your private info being grabbed and shared with the world! |
