Should it be beans on top of the toast while on the plate?
OR
Pick toast up, load with mouthful of beans, and take bite out of the slice?
Mr N, asking the questions that matter. |

You're all wrong! Butter the toast, spread with marmite, cut into small squares, pour on beans, splash a little Worcestershire sauce, grate some strong cheese, mix and shovel in In fact I'm going to make some now

Butter toast, cover toast with beans, cover beans with mashed potato (Smash is fab) add a sprinkling of cheddar cheese, put under grill again to melt the cheese - scoff it down before the wife sees you |

"Don’t forget grated cheese on top of beans "
Just NO! You place the bread under the grill and toast one side, then put the cheese on the other side and grill again, add some Worcester Sauce, cover with beans and the jobs's a good 'un |

"Where’s the cheese
How you choose to garnish your beans isn't part of the debate. Maybe I was a little remiss and should make it so. "
in that case the beans may go on top of the toast, providing it can be consumed quick enough that the toast does not become soggy
I’m not garnishing though - the cheese HAS to be between the toast and beans. |

I make my own version of beans on toast using butter beans in a Smokey paprika and tomato sauce, on toasted granary bread.
You can put some mozzarella on and grill it too. It's lovely. |

"Cheese on toast. No beans or similar tomatoey products. "
Tomorrow, I shall be asking the all important questions regarding cheese on toast. I believe it deserves its own thread |

Oh you're a real pain in the arse with such serious debate, before you know it you'll be asking should Oprah Winfrey be the next Pope or something just as ridiculous like president of the USA.
For the record, beans on the toast old boy. |

All food should be separate and combined either as appropriate or on the fork. Therefore, beans always go on a separate plate. When eaten with toast, beans in mouth then a bite of toast after. |

Nearly right, except bread in the toaster to do both sides first Needs maximum crispness to avoid being soggy as long as it can |

I agree butit doesn't work with all the food.
Do you have pasta and sauce Bolognese separate too? |

Either way it’s wrong, it’s toast, a layer of cheese, under the grill to melt, then the beans |

As explained earlier, that is not beans on toast. It's cheese on toast garnished with beans.
This is why is started this important discussion. Such things need to resolved ahead of time before we inadvertently fuck our lunchtimes up. |

I don't eat meat so don't do Bolognese. But, in principle, I treat sauces differently - they are a part of the food they're on. But you'd be surprised at the number and types of things I separate. Marc laughs at me |

Two slices of buttered toast, cut into triangles. The hypotenuse of one becomes sacrificially soggy preventing the bean juice (and cheese, Worcestershire sauce etc.) from leaking onto the other three triangular toast pieces. And I melt my cheese into the beans in the pan. Makes the sauce super gloopy and tasty. |

Now we're into the science of good beans on toast. Bravo
Have you carefully calculated the triangular dimensions, or just take it from whatever size slice you're using? |

If the bread is a posh one and has rounded corners then it's trickier without distinct right angles but I am a practiced toast cutter. |

I'm far more rebellious and just make it fit the toaster, completely slap dash way of work I know. |

It's surprisingly very tasty. I prefer it to Heinz beans on toast. |

"I don't like beans.
I'll stick with a gin and tonic if its all the same,
In a glass with a slice of lime and sipped..
Where's your protein in that??"
If its served by me (Mart)... then you really don't want me to answer, do you? |

I'm going to have to be really anal and say it's mood dependant.....
Sometimes it's beans on top of the toast but....
... if it's a cooked breakfast then one should have the beans either to the side or in a small serving dish then you can dip to your heart's content. |

Man can't live on protein alone, we need liquids too..
As for the way the Welsh enjoy their gin, I think i will stick to how I like it.. call me old fashioned.. |
