Half in half really ..
In our forum posts we may appear confrontational, aggressive, rude, abrupt, antagonistic ..... the list goes on.
We really are very nice people - straight talking, but nice  Personally we think that most folks appear different on a forum than they are in 'real life'

i think there are people like yourself who create a character for the screen.. a conscious choice to present yourself in a particular way - for humour, for provocation, for stimulation
and then there are those who deliberately deceive by hiding or creating parts of themselves ...luckily i've only met one of those people so far and thats only because i didnt trust my gut instinct - i'll listen to it more carefully next time lol |

I think i'd be an excellent choice for the people with little or no voice..
I'd bring to the table laws the common people relate to..
I'd work hard and untiring to reduce if not eradicate corruption..
But.. now all the expenses have dried up whats the point lol.. |

Im mostly the same in real life as I am on here
Can't see any reason to create too different a persona,people meet up from here partly on the strength of how you come across on the forums,what a let down if they were the complete opposite of what you thought
The only difference with me is being a mod I have to remain neutral in certain situations and act as peacekeeper when sometimes I just want to let rip |

well perhaps am different in real life to the point that I dont swear. ok the odd blow out now and again, or the occasional road rage. but mainly this is when am by myself. so i find it quite theraputic off loading on forum with as many swear words that i can think off. |

Well im a bit more relaxed off of here when talking to friends from fabs , i dont know why but i just am and been told alot more of a laugh.
I think i just feel abit of pressure to fit in and end up not being my self which leads to me making mistakes when posting on threads.  |

Online (well on a forum) all you get are my thoughts. They are my honest thoughts; which does then allow people to understand some of my values and beliefs…. but that’s only one part of a 1000 piece jigsaw which makes up me as a person. I don’t think you can see all of a person just by what they type.
What people type is not always a clear indication of how they behave… in fact it rarely is. Sitting in front of a screen gives a sense of safety, as the only consequence of our choice to type is to deal with a string of one dimensional words flooding back.
It’s easy to type anything and if people want to be careful about what they type to make sure they present an ‘acceptable persona’ (usually for their own gain in one way or another) it doesn’t require much effort. All they have to do is control which letters they tap… and have the luxury of time to think it out.
Our real life choices and the actions which take say so much more about us as people and you just don’t see those things on a forum.
I know one or two people who ‘play the game’ when it comes to their forum persona/posts. On the one hand I think it is deceptive and I’d question what sort of person is happy to manipulate people to increase their chances or gain acceptance/attention… but on the other hand I can’t help thinking it’s not my problem if there are so many guidable people around to swallow the crap lol

I have chatted via email to a few of the above posters (no names), and their emails are much nicer than the image they portray on forums, apart form one who is just as nice on the forums as in emails. Some use it as an escape from day to day stuff. |
